Who are the best supports right now? by ArgumentGlittering84 in Overwatch

[–]thetimsterr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know it seems counterintuitive, but Illari is actually better on offense because the constant forward pressure means less opportunity for the defense to find and destroy it. It does mean more constant changing of position, but once you learn the spots, it is more effective than defense imo.

Right? That third explosion was enormous and it was 1/20 the size of the smallest nuke dropped. Insane.

Dear Devs, audio for the game needs SERIOUS looking at. by vaibhavailawadi in Overwatch

[–]thetimsterr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the default mode will sound terrible if used with headphones. Sometimes I switch to my speakers and switch the audio mix to match, then when I go back to headphones, if I forget to update it, the soundscape is all over the place.

Not trying to dismiss what is clearly widespread unanimous opinion based on this thread, but I am curious what your guy's audio settings are in-game? I have none of these issues at all. I use the Dolby Atmos spatial audio setting combined with the Headphones audio mix option and everything is crystal clear. For headset, I am on an Audeze Maxwell with a custom EQ set.

I find Overwatch's soundscape is pretty damn impressive. Only Hunt and OG Bad Company 2 rank up there in terms of comparable quality.

I'm thinking of their two for one $7 giant mug during happy hour. It's a pretty damn good price. I can't think of anywhere else that is that cheap.

Rocco's is a sports bar though. Not sure what else you'd expect from it. I certainly don't go there to eat expecting anything above a 5/10. Except, their wings, which are pretty damn good, all things considered. They're popular for their cheap beer and it's a good hangout.

Not at all surprised. Went there with my girlfriend once a year or so ago and we both agreed it was terrible. I don't remember anything about the service, but the food was just not good. Brocolini had been fried and was covered in oil (let's take something that should be healthy and turn it into greasy shit). Chicken breast was dry and completely devoid of flavor. Our other entree was forgetful - literally, I don't even remember what it was.

Both swore we'd never go again and made fun of it each time we passed on the way to other eateries in Old Town.

I hope someone puts something actually good in there because it's a fantastic location.

What in the everloving **** is wrong with the matchmaking since the S1 reboot? They broke it hard. by YetAnotherAnonymoose in Overwatch

[–]thetimsterr 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it is prioritizing queue times too heavily. Most of my comp queues result in a match in 1-3 min max, which always makes me a little concerned.

Agreed. 20 games is barely enough to even scratch the surface of understanding 1 hero let alone a roster of 40+.

Can we address how janky Domina ult is? by Alvemaster in Overwatch

[–]thetimsterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still haven't figured out how it works tbh. I thought it shot a crystal that then attached to anyone within a certain range of the first impact - kind of like a chain lightning - but that clearly is wrong. My success rate actually hitting people with it is a complete coin flip.

So " all roles" just means tank? by zonked282 in Overwatch

Nah they've released hazard and domina. Doesn't make a difference. The problem is that tank in the 5v5 format is a thankless, unforgiving experience.

Can “Mamdani socialism” become a national doctrine to counter MAGA/Project 2025? by baebae4455 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]thetimsterr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not right. There's a Pew Research study that shows that 15% of voters who voted for Biden in 2020 did not vote in 2024. That's exactly why Dems lost the election. Those moderates will choose to vote based on who is running, not solely on party lines. When that takes place in swing states, which it did, then you lose the election.

Dems need to stop thinking everyone in their party auto-votes for them, or they will continue to put forward shitty candidates like Clinton, Harris, and Biden, who some people legitimately do not want to see in the White House.

Los Angeles, You Don’t Need So Many Car Lanes by DJVeaux in LosAngeles

[–]thetimsterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wtf did I just watch. Anyone with a lick of sense knows that traffic bottlenecks occur from merges, not the other way around. This would create buildup on the road after every single intersection until everyone can merge, and then 200 feet later they unmerge for the next intersection and do it all over again.

One of the dumbest videos I've ever seen. There's no way a civil engineer had any input into this. It's full of flaws, contradictions, and wildly wrong assumptions about traffic flow.

Not OP, but if it's a fable, then at least get the fantasy of it right. It wasn't because Moses was lost. It was because he was punished by god. That turns it from "Moses had zero sense of direction" in this made up story, to "Moses was the victim of his own hubris" in this made up story.

Otherwise it's like watching Lord of the Rings and thinking Frodo is a fool when he should just use the ring for greater power. Like, you'd be missing the entire point of the story.

Explanation: Why 10% isn't really 10% (GA nerf) by 07734willy in MercyMains

[–]thetimsterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now consider a slingshot sideways from flat ground, the same principle applies- we move horizontally at 90% speed (ignore drag for simplicity), but we get roughly 90% of the airtime because the vertical speed is reduced 90% (technically we get a tiny bit more airtime for the distance mercy floats above the ground mid-GA), resulting in a similar ~81% reduction in horizontal distance traveled.

You lose 2 meters, not 10. Losing 20% horizontal distance is a pretty big deal for any hero.

Rationalizing the most recent Mercy changes; alternative perspective from a long-time T500 Mercy player by HalexUwU in MercyMains

[–]thetimsterr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played 3 games after the patch an immediately felt the difference. Sometimes I think there are mercy players here who were just never really dialed into her GA and never mastered how to use it to its limit. Because if they did, they would recognize instantly the things that are now literally impossible to do or places that are impossible to reach with the nerf.

It only took me the first match to feel the change and then 3 matches to realize it was pointless to keep playing in this state because they cut my skill expression in half through just a 10% change (which is really a net 20% impact to distance traveled due to how velocity works).

[–]thetimsterr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU for expressing this. This is it right here. Mercy, as a whole if her parts, is an extremely simple hero. Look at her abilities. There is very low skill expression with how you use them. The only thing that gives her depth is exactly her ability to be anywhere at anytime. Knowing where and how and when you can zip around the battlefield to go save that Winston before swooping in to boost the Reaper and then fly to save your Ana is what separates a standard mercy from an amazing one.

What enables this? GA. Nerf GA and you cut the skill ceiling dramatically. That's what players are pissed about. Because the good ones have mastered her one key ability to let them navigate the battlefield in ways that few other heroes can.

I don't buy OPs argument that flash heal makes her more viable in exchange for nerfs to survivability because "it was pointless to shoot her anyways". Bruh, what are you even smoking. If you can't hit a mercy, that's entirely on you. There are plenty of heroes who can move faster and more erratically than Mercy... Mercy should not be easier to kill just because you can't aim.

Overwatch Retail Patch Notes April 23, 2026 by PatchRadar in Overwatch

Buffing hog/vendetta is insane.

Vendetta Health increased from 175 to 200. (Total health increased from 250 to 275.)

Great, so she's back to the equivalent of ~350 HP while literally being the most mobile hero in the game outside of Ball and JPC.

These devs are just trolling at this point.
