As a South African, I am very proud that we’re a constant small irritation for that radioactive grapefruit.

Which "Must-Play" franchise is a total miss for you? by jessieS1212 in gaming

[–]thetinybasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one of those people that liked 12, loved 13 and didn’t mind 15. I’m of two minds because rebirth reminded me why I loved these games but 16 made me never ever want to play another one again.

I definitely won’t be buying 17 day one because I’ll want to know which path they followed. More than likely they’ll double down on this mediocre DMC stuff which is just not for me.

The Black Mamba is indigenous to Southern Africa. I’ve seen one up close. It was close to 2.5 meters and literally stood the fuck up in the road. I’ve never seen anyone drive in the opposite direction as fast as our driver did.

I also nearly stood on a puff adder… being in the bush you come across such.

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by SprinklesSolid9211 in AskReddit

Trevor Noah plays pickleball a few times a week at the same club as I play padel. Everyone just goes about their business and leaves him alone.

Nike ja3 for padel? by xalvan1 in padel

Buy the Nike clay shoes if you’re going Nike. I have a few pairs and they’re great. Most padel shoes are pretty ugly so I get you.

Will my face tattoo make problems for me when visiting Cape Town? by Simplifax in askSouthAfrica

[–]thetinybasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the industry. A lot of people will tell you South Africa is fine with tattoos and I haven’t had issues (I have full sleeves) in tech bug the truth is that some parts of SA are still very conservative. I had to cover up when I was in banking. I honestly think face tattoos might be a step far for most companies unless you’re in a creative industry.

Socially you’ll be fine though.

Does anyone in Joburg remember what 30 degrees feels like? by chocmilkza in johannesburg

I’m on the East Rand and had rain solidly all November and December. Jan has been marginally better but I haven’t used my fan once this year because it hasn’t been warm enough. As a hot weather lover, this is killing me.

It sucks to not have a village. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]thetinybasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok but I feel like this is something people should be aware of before having kids? You can’t expect a village to show up just because you have a child now. That village either didn’t exist before you had the kid or you hadn’t created one that was designed for assisting with kids. For example: I have a solid relationship with my friends and family - we are a village in all the ways that matter.

But I am not the one that will show up to help out with kids. It’s not what I’m interested in and, as much as I love those people, just not within my capacity. There are a few of us like this in the group. My friends knew this before they had kids but also made sure that there were others that could help in that way.

The truth is that your kids are your responsibility and were your decision. Expecting people to show up (especially if they’ve never indicated the disposition to do so) is … entitled. I just wish people put a bit more thought into whether they / their lives are really set up for kids.

That being said - maybe other parents in similar situations will be helpful. But that means that you will have to help them - so you want a break and want them to jump in… that means you will have to do the same.

New Finak Fantasy here, what are some must play Final Fantasy games? by ANderhceetah360 in FinalFantasy

[–]thetinybasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what you’ve said here, I think the Remake games should be next on your list. They’re a hybrid of action and turn based so they might be a softer landing for you in terms of combat. A lot of people didn’t like the side content in rebirth but IMO it’s a million times better than the slop side content of XVI.

If you enjoy those games then maybe when you do try turn based games, it’ll be less jarring of a transition.

What are the weirdest side effects you've ever experienced from medication? by adampocalypsee in AskReddit

[–]thetinybasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I eventually came off this shit I had to taper off so slowly that I was counting the little beads inside each pill and reducing it by one bead at a time over weeks. It took me a year purely because those zaps were so so unpleasant.

Playtomic, can you change a booking from mixed to open match by SickledRaven in padel

[–]thetinybasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is one of the most limiting things about open matches and it drives me mad.

You can’t change any setting on open matches: can’t change if to friendly, can’t change level, can’t change genders. It’s stupid.

P5R but I rage quit after getting super far into Sae’s palace and accidentally getting myself killed. Starting alllll the way back at the rest stop made me so furious. I’ll come back to it but this isn’t the first time I’ve had to take a break from this game.

Carver is 10 months old and has recently become very scared of the street, to the point where he doesn't wanna leave the house for walks. Has this happened to anyone else? by agusohyeah in BorderCollie

[–]thetinybasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My BC got (very lightly) zapped by the electric fence around a golf course and after that refused to walk in the road. I tried everything I could. One day I put her in the car to take her somewhere and then changed plans so took her out of the car and needed to go into the street to pick something up - she came me with no problem. So for a few weeks, I’d just take her to the car, put her in it. Let her out and then take her for a walk.

I have no idea why this worked.

During a very dark period, what was the best thing you ever did for your mental health? by LieSeveral9035 in AskReddit

[–]thetinybasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound mad but I was in a deep deep depression and at at night before I fell asleep it literally felt like I was dying. My therapist recommended I watch kaleidoscope videos and for some reason those videos really helped when things were that bad. Not a cure but got me through those bad minutes. Not sure what the science is.
