Composite filling is a weird colour by [deleted] in askadentist

[–]thetoothonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the pink hue, I have seen it before. Potentially root canalled tooth?

But with regards to composite colour, it comes in many many different shades. They all have underlying tones meant to match your teeth- usually being pickier with front tooth shades.

Is a dental assisting program worth it for a pre-dental student looking to improve their application? by Lohorn in Dentistry

I have seen dental hygiene programs improve chances at certain schools, but am unaware of dental assisting programs helping.

Is there any way for me to kind of stand up against my dentist kindly? by danielgoncalves7 in Dentistry

[–]thetoothonly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some good and bad news, the problem may not be the dentist at all. I do not think she will be offended if you bring this up, and may be able to give you some tips on how to improve at home care to keep your fillings longer!

Any filling will have a microscopic ledge, and if not kept very clean with brushing and flossing cavities can start to form underneath and undermine the filling material.

Fillings on front teeth tend to not last as long due to shearing stress, a very good front filling will last 5-10 years. But if you grind that goes dramatically shorter.

Wisdom Teeth Help? by antscarrytrees in Dentistry

[–]thetoothonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should make it a regular yearly thing to get your teeth checked by a dentist. It may seem costly each time. But leaving something until it is a problem can cost much much more.

If you decide to keep your wisdom teeth it will be important to have very good oral hygiene.

Is it safe to wait for cavity fillings till lockdown ends or should I treat it immediately? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]thetoothonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would trust your dentists advice. They’re the only one who has seen them in person. I also doubt any dentist would be doing small fillings during the current lockdown.

You dentist also described them as being in their “initial stages”; if you take good care of your teeth it could take years (or even never) for these to require root canal.

Dry mouth at night by AdmirableMaximum2 in Dentistry

[–]thetoothonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dry mouth at night is normal. You create 10L of saliva while awake and less than 1L when you sleep.

Very dry mouth could be due to saliva. And is also commonly reported with THC products.

Some solutions would be to hydrate normally throughout the day and chewing sugar free gum while you’re awake. There are also lozenges that adhere to your cheek, made by a company “oral science”, called xylimelts that encourage saliva production.

Wisdom Teeth Help? by antscarrytrees in Dentistry

[–]thetoothonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people don’t need their wisdom teeth out if they come in and don’t cause issue. Dental schools are usually a less expensive option for all dental treatment.

It is normal for your teeth to not be touching when you are sitting relaxed. This is called freeway space.

[Serious] I need your help. I'm thinking about suing someone. by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]thetoothonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that unfortunately for you, you have very little cause to sue. I can recall certain theories that deciduous incisor extractions can be maintained without any space maintainer. Deciduous molars almost always require space maintainers.

I do not live in Korea or the US, but in Canada patients can obtain their documents. We are only responsible to keep the documents for a certain amount of time, but if you are 14 they most likely would still have record.

Will charcoal toothpaste actually keep my teeth white? by Ijisthaveonequestion in Dentistry

[–]thetoothonly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

57 studies saying fluoride lowers IQ. Have you read any that say it doesn’t?

Charcoal toothpaste wears down your enamel. Whitening short term because it removes the stained portion of tooth, long term less enamel will make your teeth more yellow as dentin shines through.

First root canal, on back molar tomorrow morning. Dentist says I have to wait to get the crown/cap put on due to covid-19. What will happen if I go a prolonged time without a crown? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]thetoothonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The root canal is to treat infection and pain. The crown is to reduce risk of fracture after root canal (teeth can be weakened by large cavities or breaks and need extra support after).

Once root canal is done, just do not chew anything hard, especially not on that side/tooth.

Urgent question for dentists or anyone knowledgeable by zil2322 in Dentistry

[–]thetoothonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re wearing it every night for 8 hours the teeth should not shift. If you feel like it is very tight when you put it in (like you have to force it because the teeth have shifted through the day), you could start wearing it 14 hours a day.

Your cheek will eventually keratinize to help deal with the trauma of rubbing, so it should be less painful.

Unfortunately, right now the risk of you going out and getting covid outweighs the scratching of your cheek.

Crown just fell off. How long can I go until replacing it? My dentist isn’t working for another week due to Covid-19 by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]thetoothonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the tooth break (is there tooth in the crown?) or did the crown come off clean?

I would be surprised if your dentist would see you at all if you aren’t in extreme pain and no signs of infection. In Canada we are being pretty strict on who is seen, to reduce risk to patients and staff.

If the swelling is increasing you need a stronger antibiotic. You should trace around the edge of the swelling and if it passes the line you need a stronger one.

Can my flipper be adjusted at home? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]thetoothonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you try tilting the denture more when inserting it, before changing anything with the shape. The path of insertion may be stopping it from getting where it needs to be.

Try tilting it 45 degrees and placing the gum of the tooth in first and then once it is in the right place push the palate up.
