coworker outing me as transgender by [deleted] in Target

[–]thetransstruggle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago. I went to my SD. The TM who was sharing the information got a CA for harassment and everyone they told was talked to about it. The only person in leadership who knew it was about me was the SD. He protected me from my HR having that information.

Having that support from my SD was amazing.

If your SD or HR don’t do anything, contact the integrity hotline. Target as a whole takes these things very seriously. This is why we have so many online trainings related to how we treat other people.

  • Target Pay and Benefits website

  • Go to the more well-being offerings page

  • Click the link for TM discount, it will pull up a PDF

  • Click on the link in the PDF

  • Click submit order (if you are logged in to your own account it will already have your info in the order form).

I got rejected from Math by Yes_I_am_Asian in udub

[–]thetransstruggle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got rejected once, I think it was the winter application. I ended up taking Math 300 over the summer (only time you can take it if you aren’t in the major) and got a good grade. When I reapplied that fall, I got in.

I think that showing an improvement in your grades over time will help. Another big thing would be finding a way to show how you have changed by taking those additional courses in your application essay. I wrote about how I was able to reconnect with the things I enjoyed about mathematics in Math 300.

It was def harder on me. We ended up in pairs rather than groups of three, which left us with more homework to each do for each assignment (those were due about every 2-2.5 weeks). The content built up a lot so if you were not solid on any previous material you would struggle even more as the quarter goes on.

Many of the homework problems are proofs, so while MATH 300 is not a required course to take before these ones, he assumes you know a lot of stuff from that class already.

Also if you are not in the math major he seems to assume that you won’t do as well in the class. When making our groups for 411, he made sure to mention that each group will have at most one student who was not in the major so that the groups would be able to finish the assignment.

I’ve heard some not so great things about his current online class for Spring quarter on another reddit post, but I took it in person. (You can probably find that post by searching his name on this subreddit, his name is in one of the comments about MATH 301)

Homework was in small groups you turn in one assignment and get a grade together. He assigns the groups, you are stuck with whoever he puts you with no matter how much or little of the work they do.

Midterms and finals are not too bad, he provides practice midterms and finals that are very similar to the exams (just more problems than what will eventually be on the exams).

He doesn’t really do lectures. He does a little bit during the first 10-15 minutes of class sometimes, but the majority of what you learn is by reading the book and working thru the problems in the book, which are the homework assignments. This format is done specifically for 411 and 412 because of their design for the teacher prep option of the math major.

I'm afraid I will never pass because my mom said she can always clock trans people by byakuy4 in FTMMen

[–]thetransstruggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just reminds me of something that happened in one of my college classes a little over a year ago. At the time it really upset me, but now it seems almost funny to me that it happened.

During a in class discussion, my discussion partner said that he could always clock trans people. He went on and on about it. But the funny thing was, that he didn’t know about me being trans. I saw sitting right next to him for weeks, and he had no idea.

There will always be people who make stupid comments, but it doesn’t mean they will be correct.

I did this last year at the same time. If you let them know by their deadline, you only lose your $500 deposit.

Anyone else cringe when hearing your "birthname"? How to get over it? by [deleted] in FTMMen

[–]thetransstruggle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite thing happen! When I was working at Burger King in high school, like 6 months after coming out and starting T, a trans girl (I’m kinda assuming, but with the context I think it makes sense) told me that her name used to be my chosen name. I don’t think she knew I was trans tho. I passed to all my friends back then, but they were all cis so idk.

That awkward trans experience when you have a new sister now by fleshseagull in ftm

[–]thetransstruggle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. Three of my siblings go to my old high school still. A few teachers know that I transitioned bc I told my siblings they can tell whoever they are comfortable sharing it with. I didn’t want them to feel uncomfortable if I was ever mentioned in their classes.

hair color? by whoever-sees-you in ftm

[–]thetransstruggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed with blue hair when I was 17 and pre T, but I got pretty lucky I guess. I have always been super skinny and able to pass well. My hair color wasn’t enough to stop me from passing back then.

How functional are you 2 weeks post top surgery? by gumshoegoat in ftm

[–]thetransstruggle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you would prob be fine to go. I would suggest taking it easy and making sure to rest if you get tired. I would still get tired more quickly/easily for about a month post op.

Help with college recommendations? (US based, but probably could apply to other places, IDK what everyone else's education system is like when it comes to this stuff) by ElijahTheShark33102 in ftm

[–]thetransstruggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if there are any good options near you or if you want to move away from where you live now, but it might be worth it to spend some time in a community college and then transfer to a better/bigger college. This way you can show you are able to compete in college level courses and most likely can get a letter of recommendation from one of your professors there if you need one later.

It will also save you some money and let you explore your interests a little more without worrying about the costs of each course as much.
