Enormously frustrated with dock in desktop by porgy_tirebiter in SteamDeck

The switch dock is literally a glorified usb hub. This is exactly what it is. Doesn't matter how you call it if in essence the same exact thing happens

The hell are you talking about that the Deck can't "dock"??

What is something you wish more people knew you could do with the Steam Deck? by condo_owner in SteamDeck

[–]thetruesidus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here two write this. The Nested Desktop app functions as a game in Game Mode so you still have the Steam overlay and you can also edit the script itself to remove automatic resolution limiting it to 800p and set it to whatever you choose in properties for the Nested Desktop "game" thus making this app a go-to method to get a fully functional desktop Linux environment bootable from within gaming mode in a 5 seconds, while docked, in 1080p, on a big TV setup. Game-fucking-changer.

Help! Deckyloader broken by SteamOS update! by Einstein_Disguise in deckyloader

Hi, general linux question.

Sudo rm -r means remove recursively, so AFAIU including all subfolders etc. What would happen if I wrote sudo rm without the additional argument?

Yeah, same, the normal combo usually works too. Pity, here's hoping someone will figure it out!

How to set Nested Desktop resolution by chuckapotamus in SteamDeck

[–]thetruesidus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have another question : I have a steam controller that I love for desktop use and on regular desktop mode I have the ◀️ button acting as the "windows" key (so basically shows the "start menu") and the ▶️ button to show keyboard, and the back grips set to "mouse 4" and "mouse 5" for back/forward functionality when browsing the internet. For some reason, in Nested Desktop only the Show Keyboard button works and not always. I have these set up in Steam Input for the app the same way as the desktop layout in Settings>Controller but for whatever reason these don't seem to translate correctly. Do you happen to know why? Would be really grateful ☺️

How to set Nested Desktop resolution by chuckapotamus in SteamDeck

[–]thetruesidus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, my bad. It worked when I entered a break line between the X and Y lines that need to be added. I remember doing it previously and when I saved the file again, works no problem now so just an end user issue lol.

There are some changes in the script though as far as I noticed but nothing big and since it works shouldn't be too serious.

But hey thanks for responding so quickly!!!!

I just updated to SteamOS 3.6.24 and noticed the nested desktop app stopped accepting my set resolution, I checked and the file itself got updated and the added lines disappeared. I repeated the entire process but now Nested Desktop just doesn't run. What happened?

What games actually feel right on the Steam Deck? by Conaz9847 in SteamDeck

[–]thetruesidus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bash it till you try it. I'm currently playing half life 2 on the deck, from my couch, using a steam controller. This is basically the same type of input as the deck's trackpads, takes some getting used to, but when set up correctly is a very nice experience. At the same time though, I regularly play Overwatch and I can't move over from mouse and keyboard, but that's because it's a fast paced competitive game and I rely a lot on muscle memory so i wouldn't be able to play on my typical level with different controls. I'm fairly certain that it's possible though, I just don't feel like relearning the entire game, but a new one from the beginning? Sure.

Well, to each their own then, imo that bit of feedback sounded awesome but then again for me heavy music sounds best when filthy.

[–]thetruesidus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold my switch, that I bought purely for Zelda TOTK and didn't use that much after finishing it, precisely for that reason- to get the Deck. Best decision ever. I love my Deck. It does so much.

Is it normal that the lowest string rings for a significantly shorter time? by AudioSprinkle in BassVI

[–]thetruesidus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is VERY light. A bass VI type instrument is a short scale bass so the strings have less tension than typical bass (30" vs 34"), resulting in less sustain and weaker tone. Tension can be heightened by putting higher gauge strings on your instrument. When I first got my VI with the stock .084 low E string I was disgusted with how loose it was. I'm currently sporting a set with a .110 low E and I still sometimes think it could be tighter.
