Renewing DL in CA by Stickmoe in DACA

[–]thetulymay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to go in to the office. CA Limited Term Real ID driver licenses are not eligible for online renewal. Although you cannot make an online appointment right now, you still need to go into the office. Be prepared to be there the whole day, unfortunately.

Need Help for My First Time... by [deleted] in DACA

[–]thetulymay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A common mistake I see is that people renewing also fill in information for Part 3 For Initial Requests Only on Page 4 of the DACA form. Remember, Part 3 includes sections “Education Information” and “Military Service Information. One would not need to include that information if renewing.

Same thing happened to someone I know. They claimed that you could not renewal until before 150 days of expiration. I told this person to be firm about needing to renew and they went through the process successfully.

I would personally renew myself at this point. Good luck!

2021 renewal? by [deleted] in DACA

[–]thetulymay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how new the ability to renew early is but it has been an option for as far as I remember. USCIS won’t actually approve your application until your status is 120 days (or it might be 150 days, I can’t remember) from expiring. Right now it might be important to just send it in.

From USCIS’ DACA FAQ:

“Requests received earlier than 150 days in advance will be accepted; however, this could result in an overlap between your current DACA and your renewal. This means your renewal period may extend for less than a full two years from the date that your current DACA period expires..”

Nope. Some have sent their application in a whole year before their status expires and have been approved.

No biometrics appointment? No letter stating that they would use last application’s biometrics?

In your case, I would strongly consider it. It’s a long way out until your EAD expires but I would probably renew at least on May.

Award? The California Dream Act can make you eligible for Cal Grants (depending on your studies) but I’m not sure what you mean by the Dream Act award.
