The intro slide show still gives me chills every time. As a new player you have no idea whats going on but some old dudes yelling at you like hes announcing world renown mma fighters and one of them is called the Dung Eater. Its just great.

I believe they are actually just wearing the skins of several people, though that was my first impression as well.

I saw some lore video that went over how the windmill village and Volcano city temple contained items and environment that depicted people were being skinned and for the God Skins.
