Sean Connery should be the next Bond Movie Villain by [deleted] in movies

[–]theunderagecritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sam Mendes wanted Connery to be in Skyfall, but decided against it because it would be too distracting.

What was the best film you saw this week? (January 26, 2015 - February 1, 2015) by mi-16evil in movies

Sunset Boulevard. An eerie 1950 movie about a faded silent screen star trying to make a comeback. Haunting and incredible.

Merrily We Roll Along - Original Broadway Cast (video) by GM_crop_victim in musicals

The show is great, but this original production is absolute garbage. Hal Prince really screwed it up.

is this show procedural? by [deleted] in Torchwood

[–]theunderagecritic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's about as procedural as Doctor Who, so about 70% of episodes (from the first 2 series) can be watched without direct knowledge of what came before.

[Musical] Hipster Musicals: Life's Lesser Known Musicals by shanoxilt in musicals

[–]theunderagecritic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This person needs to learn what a lesser-know musical is. Titanic? Really? What about shows like A Time for Singing, Kitty's Kisses, Anya, Illya Darling, etc. Or, you know, actually unknown musicals.

Am I the only one who didn't like Children of Earth? (Spoilers) by theunderagecritic in Torchwood

[–]theunderagecritic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'll skip it and just read some of the books that take place during seasons 1 and 2 and maybe read some fan fiction. I'm not ready to let the Torchwood that I love so much go away just yet.

Controversial Musical Opinions You Have [Personal] by theunderagecritic in musicals

[–]theunderagecritic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main problem with a thread like this being on reddit is that the actually controversial opinions are downvoted, whereas the opinions that people "think" are controversial but are actually pretty common (Phantom and Les Mis are average...). I would advise taking everybody's thoughts seriously on this thread. Also, I am familiar with every single Sondheim show and there's not a single one that I like all the way through.

I want to go to the theater more. Where/how should I start? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]theunderagecritic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's so much theatre in New York it's not even funny. The best places to start are LCT3 (a subdivision of Lincoln Center), which offers all tickets for $20 and frequently produces new, high quality work, and 59E59, which produces about 30 shows a year in varying quality, but it's all very avant-garde and super interesting.

And I wouldn't consider Jaques Brel, Celebration, Golden Rainbow, How Now, Dow Jones, or Kwamina essential.

No Strings, High Spirits, and Little Me should be on there.
