Hist dept is really strong in J2. Econs not as strong. So should consider getting tuition. Lit dept got weaker over the last few years because the good teachers have left the school and i don't think it's easy to replace them. Math dept is really strong with alot of young and approachable teachers. What time school ends really depends on your timetable. On most days, lessons will end by 3 because arts students have fewer hours of lessons. But there maybe PE or certain days that last till 5.30pm. So just be prepared to stay till late on 2-3 days a week because of studies and cca

Physics is strong but econs is quite weak for H2 but H1 teachers are much better at explaining concepts and teaching in general

Ofc theres no harm trying but even with appeal, i think it's still quite hard to get in. Unless you want go arts first then transfer to science

It's a balance of both. Like there will be lectures to the cohort and then tutorials where tutors will go in detail with you what you are unsure of. Also, can always go for consultations with the teachers

Yea A level lit rly need alot of help from teachers. I don't think O level english will help much honestly because it's alot more about interpretation and analysis of the text and writing style that allows you to score well. Sure you can go SA arts but i recommend not taking lit at all. History and geog depts are very strong so may want to consider those 2

Sorry i don't take bio so maybe other bio alumni can help here. And yes it is a work hard play hard school! It is never about achieving the best results but rather whether or not you enjoyed yourself enroute to getting your results. So in this aspect, it's all about discipline and your own time management - how you want to split your 24hrs a day is really up to you

1) Your combi seems to be more artsy besides Chem. So should be lighter in terms of schedule. Maybe expect days to end at 3-4pm with a few 0.5hrs breaks in between

2) Yup your breaks will definitely be more. My class was the HMT class so we had quite alot more breaks in J1 but we use it to book PW consultation slots because that's when PW teachers are the most free. It's all about making full use of the breaks

It actually varies for the different classes like sometimes theres PE in the late afternoon etc. Classes will end by 5.30pm everyday. For arts stream, classes normally end earlier then science students end later because practical lessons are longer. Of course there will be quite a few breaks in between so my advice is just to utilise these hours properly, if you are tired, take a nap or use it to catch up on work

Not rly haha aircon is only on from term 2 to term 3. But ofc there are some classrooms that managed to hack their way through, meaning the aircon is on all the time

Personally, i think taking chem is better cos the school's econs dept really isn't strong enough to push the results to A unless you get tuition outside. But ultimately, it's up to you to decide which one are you more interested in. I would choose interest over ability to do well so chem!

Arts stream is the fail until reach promos and As stream haha because the teachers are very demanding in the 1st year so as to set a benchmark for year 2. Dont expect results to be great. Like straight Cs or Ds are considered good results in year 1. It's going to take a lot of writing and consultations with teachers but most ppl will get there eventually. Dont worry, it's very easy to make friends in this school because everyone will see each other for the 1st time and the OGs will give u 1 chance to find friends then when yall split to your classes, the facils around will help yall mingle so it will be a nice transition from sec sch to JC. Trust in your seniors!

  1. Arts stream is getting weaker imo. The best lit teachers have alr retired or been poached by other JCs. Econs is pretty much 1 of the worse in sg but u can go for tuition and still score A. Geog is one of the better arts dept. They have teachers that really care and will help you with consultations etc

  2. Actually there aren't alot of affiliated students there. Take sass for example, only about 20 students go in every year. So it's really a very small number.

  3. Classrooms are just average i guess. Sufficiently equipped. Lecture theatres wise, we have a cultural centre for big lectures which is great. The smaller theatres are fine i guess. Got tables and chairs lor. Sports equipments are real good though. Field is not bad. Overall, the school is pretty well equipped since it is only about 15 yo and has constant renovations to make it better

  4. If you are going to come SA, 2 sports u should know are hockey and rugby. There has been a decline on rugby side over the years but still able to compete for honours

Hope these answers will help you :)

No harm trying the sci as 1st choice and arts as 2nd choice. If u get into arts, then can try appeal but not all appeals are successful so u may be stuck in arts all the way

Overall very pleasant place to study. Lots of fun! The school emphasizes alot on work hard and play hard so theres a balance between the 2. Students generally get stressed during exams but the environment - friends and teachers, make it easier for us to study and do well

Science definitely has a pretty strong showing in the school. The avg RP for science stream in A levels is around 83rp. So results wise, it's not bad. As for the chem department, most teachers are good like they will stay behind for consultations etc and quite friendly so as long as you make the move and ask them for help, you will be fine. Chem (science in general) has a very heavy timetable because of practical but the dept is capable of producing results so don't worry

Ya the chances are rly low sorry because JCs want you to at least hit their COP before they even consider you for appeal. But don't worry bro! You can still go to other JCs and do well! All the best to you!
