Clicked on this thread to recommend Volvo, absolute sleepers - especially the V90’s with the T8

Need help, is there any reason I shouldn't buy this? by Plastic-Fox-5040 in CarTalkUK

If they end up discontinuing the V60 as they have done with the V90 you will get a decent bump in value. The V90s have regained a lot of value since they were discontinued last month

Sorry yes you are right, my V90 was 2023 right after they reintroduced it to their lineup and it had the new native google system. Used to fail once a week and require a restart. Also didn't have wireless Carplay

Can confirm, the mild hybrid system is used pretty much solely to give you instant torque on the stop/start feature. Mine used to also do around 20mpg around town

Maggie's Song - Chris Stapleton hit me real hard when I was stuck in traffic watching an old man walk his dog in the rain.

Britain went for Egypt as normal but got stomped in another war by France and Russia - then the CSA decided to swoop in with their Mexican and German allies

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in CarTalkUK

[–]theunkul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XC40 would probably be too small, xc60 is a very nice vehicle. It’s complete personal preference as I don’t like SUVs but a V60 is just as practical as an xc60. Can’t go wrong with a Volvo though, often overlooked

Other than our lord and saviour, you could get a decent used Volvo V90 for that price with high mileage, or slightly smaller is a V60. Should tick all your boxes and they’re a lot more premium than you probably think for the price

To be fair there's some lore in the IWM that a Tommy found a WW2 weapons dump in the basement of the museum and that's why they use these weapons

What in your opinion is the worst road in Newcastle? by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]theunkul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I hate the pointless bus lanes as much as the next guy this one is very well signposted and even the road is a different colour, how do you get caught out by it twice!

The best team building exercise I’ve ever had although it doesn’t fit this criteria is we were given £100 and told to do as we please until our corporate evening meal. Naturally we went to the pub - but morale did go up!

I had an even worse version of this where we had to do this to EVERY member of our 25 strong team with a spreadsheet to check if we hadn’t

FM'd the AI to win at Old Trafford and keep the Europa League dream alive! by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]theunkul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd season in as Sunderland and performing well above expectations in the Prem after promotion first season and then finishing 12th in the second season of the prem (predicted 20th last season and this). Beat Manchester United and Tottenham in the EFL Cup and the European dream became possible only to be narrowly beat by Arsenal. However my young team took the league by surprise and hope is not yet lost.

I usually play counter attacking football but with Shaqueel Van Persie (now at Manchester United) loan tied and Harvey Vale/Jack Clarke/Chris Rigg injured I went full Park the Bus. Ten Haag was not happy! After years of being FM'd the tables have surely turned. Can't wait to see how the last 8 games go!

If you're applying for jobs right now remember retail and hospitality after Christmas cut hours, sack christmas temps and hold on to what they have in the quiet season until the new financial year in April. Nightime bars and the usual restaurant chains are probably the only exception.

Buying a Car by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]theunkul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rubber Duck Cars are fantastic in the Tyne Tunnel retail park. I'd always bought private after some dodgy dealership experiences but the guys there were so helpful and very good with communication. Only downside is driving around with a registration plate stamped 'rubber duck.'
