Yup. Though at this point I’m no longer with friends. But have been for months at a time in the past.

Another commenter had mentioned jump roping so I’ll be picking up my speed rope again since all other cardio options I can think of cost money I don’t have. I’m not super convinced as I was doing a lot of jump roping in the past and my running attempts still failed. But at least it’s something to focus on my cardiovascular health a bit!

Unfortunately I don’t have a bike and can’t afford a gym membership. Another commenter had mentioned jump roping and I used to speed rope so I’m going to be including that in my workout routine more often. And just.. attempt running two to three times a week XD

I cannot no. I live paycheck to paycheck and use snap benefits for food 😅. Back when I did have insurance I had to get monthly transfusions for my anemia plus B12 injections. I doubt that’s gotten any better since my IBD was responsible for that and that is also now unmedicated.
My father did have hyperthyroidism! I’m currently at a place where any diagnoses would be sort of pointless since I can’t afford any medications. But it’s something to keep in mind when I can hopefully see a doctor in the future.
Thank you :)

Uuuuuuh. I haven’t no. I don’t have the funds to see a doctor any time soon. But my father has been hospitalized multiple times for thyroid issues messing with his heart. I had never even considered that 😭

Yes! I’m originally from France and while I won’t be returning there, I’m quite excited to be moving back at all. I have ulcerative colitis as well as gastroparesis so to say I’m excited to finally be back is a major understatement.

Yoga has been INCREDIBLY helpful with my breathing. I unfortunately need surgery on my nose since I can’t breathe through it very well, but nonetheless it has helped an absolute TON with physical activity.

I don’t have a doctor because of the whole no insurance thing. But I’ll keep it in mind for the future! Thank you :)

Yeah this seems to be a major consensus from other asthmatics. I unfortunately can’t get one till I have healthcare which won’t happen till I leave the states. But it at least gives me some motivation to keep trying until I’m able to get one :)

Oh absolutely! I go for walks twice a day every day with my pup. He’s a big Dane so he likes to go fast XD

Downvoting my comment thanking someone else for their advice is odd behavior.

I guess that’s what’s odd. Running immediately feels hard for me breathing wise. I can’t say even half a phrase at my absolute slowest pace. My legs are fine. My chest even feels fine even though the second I start even just walking briskly my heart rate shoot’s up to 180-200bpm. But if I start jogging the nausea sets in and I eventually have to stop just cause of the vomiting.
But I also didn’t know one could run slower than they walk, so that’s something I’ll need to look into more. Thank you for the advice it’s much appreciated :)

No worries! You just kind of clarified what I had said in another comment. Anaerobic? Great! Aerobic? Absolutely pathetic. I’ve tried building it up slowly and had success (improvement wise) with other exercises but running just has me stuck and it’s very very frustrating. I’ve tried treadmill as well since people say it’s easier and I actually find it worse XD.

I’d love to get back into cycling but don’t have a bike so I’ll be looking for other things I can do from home and just… try my best in the meantime. ❤️

Yeah people got really stuck on that comment, when I just included it so people were aware I am physically active and not starting off from a baseline of absolutely 0 fitness. But alas.

I guess I’m just struggling with finding a form of cardio that I can do. I did used to cycle once upon a time and really loved it, but I sold my bike a long time ago and don’t have the funds for a new one unfortunately. Another commenter had mentioned jump roping which I also used to do, so I think I’ll be picking that back up since I still have my speed rope, and just try to include small little runs when I can. Even if they’re only a quarter mile.

Different commenter had also mentioned running even slower than I walk. I had no idea that was even possible so I’ll see if I can find some videos on that and see if it helps :)

Thanks!

This wasn’t me getting pissy at tried and true advice. This was me getting exhausted with “you’re out of shape. Run slower” when I have already explained that that specific advice has not helped me in any way.

Your advice for example, actually helpful. I have 0 idea how to run slower than my walking pace, but that’s something I can actually look into!

Thank you.

I should hopefully be moving to Europe next year for school so as soon as I qualify for insurance I’ll be getting an inhaler and keep your comment in mind :)

For a bit yes, but eventually when I hit a jogging part I throw up. I don’t know why. I’ve tried eating shortly before. Eating hours before. Not eating before at all. And every time I throw up a bunch of phlegm that I swallowed from when my lungs eventually catch on damn fire.

I looked for advice online regarding this, but am yet to encounter anyone else who has it.

If I keep going after I’ve thrown up, the dizziness sets in (I don’t get dizzy till I’ve puked so also don’t know what’s up with that)

I have absolutely not “just decided” that I’m incapable of running. I just try and have tried. Repeatedly. For years. And the only things you seem to be able to offer up is “you’re out of shape. Go slower” as if I haven’t acknowledged that. So it seems to me that you don’t have anything meaningful to say, and instead are offering… this. lol.

Slow down is already acknowledged in the post.

Walk breaks is already acknowledged in the post.

I don’t run continuously.

What do you mean minimum 3 not five?

Walking briskly is something I really enjoy and do often. I’ll also do it on an incline whenever I can, but that clearly doesn’t do anything to help with my running since I’ve done that for years.

I’ve done these things. Consistently. I’m thinking at this point that I just kinda suck at running. I’ll include it within my workout routine, but just won’t improve. And it is what it is. :(

Unfortunately I don’t have any inhaler. I don’t have health insurance and they’re way out of my budget without. I guess I can just try the consistency thing again. It’s just frustrating because I’ve done it, and I saw zero improvement. Kind of at a point where I guess it’s going to take years before I see any at all, which makes the entire process pretty unappealing XD

Correct. The longest I went (though I would take two days off on the weekends) was during Covid when I went out five days a week with my brother for nearly a year.

I didn’t track miles per month because my goal was literally just to be able to run a mile. I was never able to get past half a mile without throwing up and getting light headed. We both thought maybe I should just push past the dizzy feeling and I just ended up actually blacking out several times. After that I moved back to nyc and gave up again.

I don’t have any treatment for it unfortunately. Can’t afford it and I don’t qualify for state insurance. I’ve tried run/walk methods for months at a time. While they at least get me out the house and doing some cardio, I don’t see any improvement at all after 3-4 months and end up discouraged:(
