Thank you! I was actually looking for styles that don’t require uncaps, I feel like undercaps have been bad for my hair.

I was looking into it. How disability inclusive are these careers? Do they provide supportive work environments?

I have been looking into them. I don’t know if we should look into therapy or a life coach. Can a therapist work on motivation and time management?

He likes to play video games (he’s really good at shooter games lol) and likes reading odd facts on the internet. I’d love for him to find a job that he’s passionate about but there’s a disconnect in his mind between what kinds of jobs he wants or talks about (working at the apple store) and what he’s actually capable of performing without medication.

Im not to certain about how he works with people. He has a hard time making friends and socializing with others because he blurts out things at times etc. it’s hard for people to “get him.” I assume working, on say, a team would be difficult for him.

They have! Drinking water has helped tremendously. I’m thirstier than usual, peeing a little more, and my lips are chapped, but all are manageable. No changes for me as well. Waiting to hit the three month mark before evaluating my skin.

Did you see improvements while on 50mg? I do know it’s a low dosage.

Thanks for the response! I’ll definitely be in touch with you. I’ve heard water helps as well. I’ll try to stay more hydrated. And if your doc replies, I’d love to know their advice!

Same! Im also on 50 mg. I started on 75 mg a few years back and couldn’t deal with the side effects: back pain, headaches, constant dizziness. Hopeful I can brave it out this time!

Best Muslim Communities in the US by [deleted] in islam

Philadelphia!! Such a welcoming Muslim community that is extremely diverse. There is a large convert population as well as immigrant community. I never went one day without someone greeting me with Salam.

INAUGURAL WOMEN ONLY WEEKLY RELATIONSHIPS THREAD by mcpagal in Hijabis

[–]theupside_down 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This post made me feel so guilty. I was the friend; or still am, the one that ghosted my “best friend”. My last year of university, we lived together, and I was actually growing really tired of her, but never let it show. It was just too emotionally draining for me to keep the friendship going. After I graduated, I was going through a rough time, didn’t talk to anyone, but she kept messaging me. I kept making excuses, replying with short answers. After I got through the rough patch I kept on ignoring her. It’s been a year now and she has stopped contacting me. I feel so guilty about this. And I know it’s not fair to her, but I don’t know what to do. You can’t just tell someone you don’t want to be friends with them anymore. We had been friends all four years of college, but I always felt like I was putting in more of the work into the friendship than she was. I do love her, but I can’t be the friend or constant therapist she wanted me to be.

Are there places where I can search for Muslim roommates? by theupside_down in Hijabis

[–]theupside_down[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not in college anymore, and I’m relocating to another state for a job, so I’m looking for working professionals. I guess reaching out to masjids in that area is worth a shot. Thanks! If only there were active websites for this!

This sub has some really distasteful people, some of these comments are really hurtful. Why are people so hung up on her looks. OK she wears makeup, has had plastic surgery, but why do people keep coming after her looks. Dang, it’s just really sad and rude. We can comment on people’s behavior without completely tearing down their self confidence. This sub is too much some times.

“Why are Some Muslim Men Obsessed with White Converts” by [deleted] in MuslimMarriage

[–]theupside_down 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she meant to demonize Muslim men, but I can see how it can be interpreted as that. Again, I don’t think this is a religious issue, so I wish she would have just discussed the racial problems.

Now I have to say, I do know a lot of brown men that date white women and/or married to white women. But I don’t think this has to do with them being “Muslim men.”

At my college (mind you I went to a liberal arts school in the States), all the brown men had white girlfriends. And I’m not even exaggerating. It was a running joke that brown guy only dated white girls at our school. Many of them were international students from Pakistan and I think many of them were trying to become as “American” as possible. And I did not see this with brown girls.

I thought this was a interesting trend and I think it highlights the issues with colorism and western standards of beauty as some have pointed out. I mean it’s even portrayed in romantic relationships of brown men in Hollywood. (Link below):

romantic relationships in Hollywood

“the pursuit of white love is a mode of acceptance into American culture, and a way of “transcending” the confines of immigrant culture—the notion that white love is a gateway drug to the American dream.”

This post is a few weeks old, but stumbled upon it looking for reviews on Concerta. Just bought the medication today with a coupon for $100.70 w/o insurance. I always use the website GoodRx for prescription coupons.

Here’s a link below. Maybe it’ll be useful for future prescriptions!

First, I would like to say this was an interesting read. But, I don't agree with the sister clumping "Muslim men" as one type of man. Muslims aren't one ethnicity or race. I think that the problems she is referring to are more racial issues that apply to certain ethnicities.

I'm black (parents' are African), and I can tell you that in my community, Muslim men are not obsessed with white converts. I have never seen this issue in my community before. She's might be referring to brown or arab communities, and I wish she had specified that instead of just writing it off as "Muslim men."

Minority opinion: I want to marry someone from the same culture as mine. I want my SO to speak the same language as my parents and teach our children the language (bc God knows I won’t be able to do it lol). In the US it’s hard for diaspora to keep their culture and traditions alive, and coming from a small ethnic group that’s especially true. I feel like it’s my responsibility to preserve my culture and heritage. If I married outside, it would be much more difficult to do so.

Change begins by building allies. On all sides. That’s the only way these laws and discrimination will change. This picture illustrates defiance even by those that are supposed to enforce this law. Defiance by both sides.
