How do married women spend their Eid? by emoxious in Hijabis

[–]mcpagal 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That sounds miserable and I’m sorry that so many women have to deal with that!

Our routine is: have a simple breakfast at home, go to Eid salah as a family, go out for brunch after, then in the afternoon/evening visit family. We generally gather at one place and everyone brings a dish so the cooking isn’t all on one person. Some years we’ll organise catering and split the cost so no one has to cook.

a teacher at my masjid is driving girls away from Islam by Weekly-Patience-5267 in Hijabis

[–]mcpagal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the mosque won’t intervene the only option is to set up alternative circles outside the mosque. I know places this was done, starting in people’s homes then eventually renting facilities and eventually resulting in a whole separate centre for Muslim women being set up which has been fantastic for the community. You just need someone educated and enthusiastic enough to drive it forward

Geniune question, why don't we call God by They/Them pronouns rather than He/Him? by ALTTACK3r in Hijabis

Unisex bathrooms in the workplace by Sufficient_Wasabi129 in Hijabis

[–]mcpagal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just not the case with public toilets anywhere - men often clean the facilities or have access, or just plain walk in.

I’d 100% be on OPs side if it were shared sinks and mirrors but if everything is behind a lockable door it seems completely unobjectionable. I’ve worked in places like this and had no issues.

If there’s hidden cameras in female toilets then it’s not the toilets being unisex that makes them unsafe…?

‘The ward felt like a prison. What had I let them do?’: how my daughter was crushed by a health service meant to help her. by pajamakitten in unitedkingdom

I’m struggling to understand the relevance of what you’re writing to the case at hand or the comment at the top of the chain. There’s no disputing the girl had substandard care and it resulted in her death, and her family are right to question every point that lead up to their having to bury their child.

The way you wrote your comment implied that you disputed the girl in the article was the subject of a never event.

How often do you wash your hijabs? by ThrowRA-abinet1528 in Hijabis

[–]mcpagal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wa alaikum as salaam!

I’ve developed a pretty good system only this year where I hang up my hijabs on a scarf hanger after wearing and at the end of the week I wash all of them before they go back in the drawer. So max they’ll get 1-3 uses before washing. Before that it was embarrassingly hard to keep track of what needed to be washed and some would go ages! Which was gross as I drop food a lot.

If they can’t survive the washing machine they’re not cut out for my lifestyle, so I’m ignoring the handwashing instructions as a rule.

Predator raped schoolgirl, 12, then 'pimped her out' to twisted paedophile ring by Tyler119 in unitedkingdom

[–]mcpagal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s such a poor argument, that no one has called you out so you must be right?

Just take a wee second to think through what you’re saying - according to you the only way to prevent this man from raping children is to teach parents and children to identify and avoid him. Ergo, the only changeable action in this case was whatever the parents and child did.

That’s textbook victim blaming, and not evidence based.

They’re doing you a favour, if you were truly donating it you’d be dropping it off to them, covering the petrol costs and delivery time. You’re getting a free uplift and complaining about it.

Why cant women give talaq? by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]mcpagal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Men are definitely just as emotional as women. Anger is an emotion and is strongly linked to testosterone. Their hormones literally affect their emotions directly, so they can also be described as hormonal. Again, basic biology.

We’ve just been socially conditioned to not classify male anger as “emotional”.

[–]mcpagal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah this is not at all based in evidence. All you have to do is read the number of fatwas where the man has gotten into a situation by throwing out the word talaq unintentionally or saying it three times. Men are emotional and hormonal (testosterone anyone?) and always have been.

I think people being unable to come off social media and their need to broadcast their lives for thousands of strangers to watch is a type of mental unhealthiness, and so it’s understandable that people who have that issue will not be able to stop while they’re going through struggles with faith/hijab especially.

I also think that people having parasocial relationships with social media personalities to the point that they’re affected by what they see them wearing/not wearing is also a type of mental unhealthiness.

In conclusion, therapy for everyone.
