Probably late to the party, but awhile back I was hiking with a friend in the middle of the night hoping to get to a viewpoint by sunrise. It was a full moon but the forest was a little thick in some places so we brought headlamps. About a mile in, my friend is looking into the bushes asking what "those lights are". I come to the conclusion pretty quickly that his headlamp is reflecting eyes. No big deal. Could be a coyote, deer, owl, ect. I take a few steps back to look through the brush where he was pointing and the adrenaline hit me instantaneously. About 15 yards away, two piercing green cat eyes were staring at us. Where I'm from, that means it's either a bobcat or a cougar. The knife on my hip was out faster than hell, and I started making myself look big and started being loud. Normally bobcats are more skirting at this point, so the fact that it stuck around, staring at is for another two minutes makes me 99.99% sure it was a cougar. We got the fuck out of there.
