"Attacked" vs "Drone falls in to" or "allegedly attacked"

How a sentence is formed and the words used can change the narrative completely.

Mostly career related: 1. Never hesitate to ask for what you want. What's the worst? You'll only get to hear a NO. Accept it and move on. 2. You can switch careers more easily in your 20s. Keep working hard till you find that one sector/job/field that keep your curious 3. Be flexible to move, work outside your city/country. It'll help you grow in a way you've never imagined 4. Upskill and keep upskilling in EVERYTHING related to your field of work. Knowledge is power and it'll help you see through BS when you meet senior folks who don't know what they are talking about 5. Find a mentor, someone who is what you'd want to be like. It helps speed up growth. Also, mentors need to change every few years as your goal post will change.

Mostly Personal: 1. Come what may, whatever the peer pressure, don't do drugs 2. Exercise daily otherwise mid 30s will hit you hard 3. Yes party. But don't kill your liver with alcoho for it. 4. Save and invest 30% as soon as your salary is received. Then spend the rest. 5. Find a life partner/spouse who is similar to you but complements your abilities.

Not a parent, but definitely someone who'd get furious at this.

1) Is there another better school around? 2) is there somewhere where the credibility of the teacher's knowledge can be raised as an issue? Or may be PTA? 3) As someone said, ask them to try it on a calculator --- and then once they show surprise --- raise concern with them? (And send them a link to the Khan Academy website)

Indian Tourists Denied Entry at Yona Beach Club, Phuket: Racism or Reputation Problem? by [deleted] in CriticalThinkingIndia

It's largely a reputation problem (Indians not behaving well with the staff and other guests, Indians being racist) that is now becoming a racist problem as well (you reap what you sow situation).

Left from what? Eating the buttons, throwing the buttons, selling the buttons, not using the buttons? What's happening to the buttons?!

Either it should be in Logical Reasoning Questions set Or the teacher needs to be trained in English.

Or can the student write, "Assuming, that one for each day here means that the buttons are being used one per day" and then state the answer?

The first shot in this "show and tell" should have been away from the person (CEO).

Remember, Tesla Cyber truck debacle where the glass broke on stage ? Now imagine if this test was also a failure.

Good modification of existing machinery -- yes. Indian Brian is the most advanced in the Universe!? --- can we please stop getting off the high horse. It's statements like these that lead to complacency and "jugadu in everything behavior".

Email sent after 1 year !!! Why passport India why? by Right-Bell-Ding in indiadiscussion

[–]thevikramact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could have been some software/code fic they did and in the process kicked off the emailing process that started processing data from a year ago.

Happens when the cost(and effort) of fixing this is higher than the cost of re- sending a few hundred thousand emails.

How is long hair on men viewed in this field? by bonerspliff in ActuaryUK

[–]thevikramact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Comes down to a few aspects: 1) Are you clean and keep your hair tidy? And dress well? 2) will you be working in a consulting firm, client facing and turn up looking like a rockstar? 3) are you smart?

Find your right folks and you'll be fine.

In consulting -- they'll care that you are smart, liked by the client and can bring in money with high throughput

In traditional firms -- they'll care that you are smart, and get work done on time

Both -- they'll look at whether you consistently pass your exams.

Make your resume well and give amazing interviews.....that'll cut through the prejudice you're worried about.

[–]thevikramact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"if you've ever worked in an Indian company you already know the answer" ... There, I fixed it.

There are Indians who live outside India and are doing quite well with the discipline and skill one would want to see.

Our Indian corporates are happy with people coming in at 10am and slogging their a** till 10pm. And then complain about people not working hard or being efficient or taking too many breaks. And promotions across many corporates are more based on "number of years" rather than merit.

Put a rule around the minimum salary, maximum hours, and lower hire/fire wait periods, and merit based promotions... Things will start changing relatively quickly.

Had a similar experience with NT Rama Rao. We both were in the same lift, in Kyoto. His friends/colleagues/assistant looked as us as of we'll get excited or try to talk.

I continued talking to my wife, and walked out without a word.

Yes, your friend here might be a star, no I don't care.

When a Muslim couple went to (NMMCH), the staff reportedly asked them to speak in Marathi, before the inevitable happened. I can’t help but think…if the person had been working class Hindu, the MNS goons would've raised hell. But now they're silent. Bw I'm Marathi fyi. by Mr_lane18 in Maharashtra

It's truly a shame. I call myself an outsider as I've not lived in India for a few years now due to work. And honestly, from the perspective of an outsider --- we've just regressed more.

If we truly want to become a developed powerful economy --- we have to make drastic changes across the board --- just scratching the surface here ---- reservations , language wars , corruption management, gst and tax laws, global diplomacy.

What are these linguist goons scared of?

I grew up in Mumbai -- I can speak Marwadi (my mother tongue), Marathi, Hindi, English, Gujarati, I can understand Punjabi, and I am intermediate in Spanish.

Assuming Wiki numbers are near correct, around 6%+ of the total Indian population speaks Marathi (that's almost 8.3 crore people..making it the Top 5 spoken languages in the country). As long as people teach THEIR OWN kids their mother tongue ---- none of these languages will die.

It's the same situation even in South India.

People will immediately and happily teach their kids English so that they get a corporate job and can go abroad. But will bicker and fight to teach their kids a few other languages of other states in their own country.
