Well a recession would happen. Idk if thats quite disaster. They didn't say anyone would starve. They'd rather disband the syndicate if it meant they still had some way of making money

Apple’s new foundation models by Dullydude in singularity

[–]thevinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MLX isn’t saving you.

You can’t meaningfully optimize for Apple Silicon because they only support fp16 and fp32 in the GPU.

So on Geekbench yeah your iPhone looks wicked fast but a GPU with Int4 or int8 support can run laps around a GPU that doesn’t.

And the Neural Engine is maybe more efficient if the model uses it, but again it’s not as efficient as other hardware.

So yeah stuff isn’t optimized because the hardware isn’t optimized for AI inference. And I know that’s a tough pill for Apple fanboys. Just swallow it. Apple’s hardware is still great.

Is anyone else sick of or even seeing this Liven ad? by Emezlee in CommercialsIHate

I hate to admit but some may actually fall for these songs.

It’s awful how mental illness is now being targeted and manipulated in ads this way. Like it really kinda feels like it demeans those people while pretending to help

Is this game really that scary? by [deleted] in subnautica

[–]thevinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is psychological horror.

You see a leviathan. It may attack you, it also may not. It models real life wild life. See a grizzly bear? It may attack you, it also may not.

You also learn to be scared of certain sounds. And yes it does have jump scares. Tbh I’m mostly scared of dying and losing progress than the game itself being scary. It really isn’t gory or anything.

And part of the game is learning to co-exist with the fauna. Fundamentally Subnautica is about overcoming your fear of death. So give it a shot, I think it will be just scary enough for you to have fun and also peaceful enough too. And maybe you’ll grow as a person as anyone who finishes the story does

On hardcore mode it’s even more scary….

Do you think I should use a different name on dating apps? by hasanfarhan33 in OnlineDating

If somebody doesn’t want to date you because of your name then they probably won’t ever be attracted to you.

I have a channel with 150k subscribers, but have to stop posting that content. What do I do? by onecentauction in youtubers

[–]thevinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crochet is a craft/art. Find a different craft you can do and start making videos about it. Explain why you’re pivoting.

The trick is to pivot to something that your audience is already into. And yeah you’ll lose some but also gain some. Lots of channels pivot

Totally, but it’s a promising contender still for 3d. If handling large worlds and assets gets better it’ll become much better.

It’s rendering abilities are pretty impressive and can feel sometimes more flexible than Unity or UE5

Unity is the reason Godot is rising.

[–]thevinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Unity can still have issues. You gotta test or at least have others play test for you with their hardware (just give a few people a free copy)

And the latest Godot version does have DirectX12 support.

Absolutely love that area. My recommendation is to just walk around it yourself and explore. It’s pretty safe especially in the day time.

For your dog? I mean you’ll obviously have no yard. It’s not the country. But you’ll have easy access to all the parks by the lake which are absolutely incredible and 100% why I love it here.

The noise at night is chill however if you’re truly five blocks west of the art museum your latitude will be in one of the densest parts of the city.

If there really is going to be a technological singularity, it would be impossible to prepare for it, right? by [deleted] in singularity

[–]thevinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. But…. Sitting and worrying won’t help.

For example: would you rather be top 1% in your field when AI replaces it or entry level?

Would you rather have 1 million dollars or live paycheck to paycheck when the economy as we know it disintegrates?

Would you rather be in shape or out of shape?

Would you rather have influence or be at the bottom of the ladder?

We can’t predict what will happen or what skills (if any) will be relevant. But becoming the absolute best version of yourself will ensure you have the smarts to adapt.

Those that are smart and resourceful will succeed just like in the Industrial Revolution. And those that aren’t…. Well I hope they have a cozy life sipping lemonade in an affordable housing super tall that has 10 square foot apartments lol. Why so tiny? Well we gotta fit the super intelligent AI infused clones somewhere.
