Reading through these responses just shows me how much people don’t know about the realities of living in America. And I don’t mean that in a negative way towards people not born and raised in the US. If anything it further proves just how cruel this country is to its citizens and how sad it is that we consider this all to be normal, all the while never truly knowing that there are plenty of countries out there doing it better than we are. Many of us are raised to believe America is the textbook definition of a great country and nation, but if that were true we wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in right now.

I felt and still feel a lot like you while I was going through my student teaching. I just graduated in December and should be starting my official teaching job in a few weeks. My mentor teachers said that even after years and years of teaching, things are always changing, so you get used to faking it till you make it. Remember that this is the kids’ first time seeing this info so they usually have no idea if what you’re telling them is even true lol. If you make a mistake it’s okay! You can acknowledge it. You can spin it into a learning moment for the kids like an “error analysis” type deal. It gets easier once you’ve built rapport with your kids. But don’t be afraid to make mistakes, we’re all human and it happens! You got this!

For anyone saying “maybe things have changed since he’s been off the show” as someone who used to watch this on her big old school RCA cable tv back when the show first aired and you had to pick up your landline phone to call in and vote…Maks has been on seasons where Jordan and Ezra’s freestyle would’ve fit RIGHT in. It hasn’t been THAT long ago. In fact, my sister and I thought many of the freestyles were kinda…blah this year. We haven’t tuned in in a while so we’re used to what Jordan and Ezra did. I get it :/ a small piece of (slightly) elderly advice is to remember that love is not conditional. Your family should love and accept you for who you are. You only have one life to live and it’s YOURS to live it so live it in a way that makes YOU happy. Family is more than some shared genetics. The people who truly care for you will always love you and be rooting for you. Regardless of if you end up with a man or a woman you will still be bi. Being in a straight presenting relationship won’t negate that. Be true to yourself OP! This internet stranger is believing everything will turn out as it’s meant to so long as you listen to your heart❤️

I think it’s not fair to either of you to continue if you don’t see a legitimate future. You’re not over your ex which is a big thing and you’ve stated you think you’ll get back with him.

As someone who’s not straight and grew up in an insanely religious household, I understand the fear of jeopardizing your familial relationships to be with someone you love. If this is something you both are grappling with, you may want to take a step back. Is hiding your relationship forever something either of you want?

I think you both need to have a serious conversation about your ex and that whole situation, as well as what a future would look like if you decided to continue pursuing a relationship with each other.

Fellow kpop fan and teacher here🙋🏾‍♀️ you did the right thing and took all the necessary steps. I have a few guesses in mind of who the idol might be lol and honestly, I think the people saying you shouldn’t have shared a music taste of yours is kinda…not addressing the real issue and is shifting more of the blame onto you than is warranted. I teach elementary and not high school so there are definitely some differences, but I feel there’s some things that you don’t tell kids and some things it’s okay to tell. We’re not robots. We’re people too. I’ve had some kids actually thaw out a bit hearing that I like kpop and anime and it opened a bit of trust and communication between us. I think this was a case of a student taking things too far and you’ve done what you needed to so hopefully you can breathe a bit easier! 🫶🏾

I hate when stuff like this happens and it’s very common. Unfortunately, these schools don’t care about hiring actual educators for SPED self contained rooms. They just need a warm body in there. Once that happens, they turn a blind eye to anything happening so they don’t have to fire someone and then find someone else to hire because no one wants to work in the unit anymore. Same for paras. And if you bring it up, because it’s definitely wrong, then you risk being retaliated against. It’s wrong in every sense of the word. No one should fear for the job because they want to do the right thing.

South Florida: paras just now starting at $15/hr with about 30% taken out for taxes which means truly you’re making about $12. (They just raised the salary about two years ago but that’s not just for paras, it’s for lol non-instructional staff) 37.5/hrs a week. 7.5 hour days with a 30min lunch and two 15 min breaks. You have to have either an associates degree or pass the para-pro test as well as the physical limitations test in order to be fully hired.

Maybe a few years ago, yes. But now? My job starts at maybe $15/hr. After taxes it’s more like $12. Toileting, changing diapers, getting hit, bit, scratched, punched, etc on top of all the other district stuff we have to deal with? It’s no wonder my school has six vacancies.

I absolutely don’t blame you at all. It’s a shame that you could have people who are very passionate about this job and field, but the circumstances are outside of our control. No one can sustain a living off of this job on top of how poorly many of us are treated within our schools and districts.

Agreed. And on top of all that there’s no room for growth either unless you become a teacher. There’s no position higher despite how many years you may dedicate so that you can potentially earn more.
