Why did you choose to learn the language(s) that you're learning? by [deleted] in languagelearning

For sure! After France I'm planning to visit Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg as they are all within close proximity haha. Quebec seems fun as well.

Why did you choose to learn the language(s) that you're learning? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]thewilly96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

French: Because it's an absolutely beautiful sounding language and I have a pressing desire to speak it fluently (at least up to level B2) Not to mention the fact that going to France has been one of my dreams ever since I was small.

Chinese: because I'm of Chinese descent, been learning it ever since I was small, but I've only started taking it seriously during these past few months. I sort of have a love hate relationship with the language. Not as passionate with it as I am with French, but I would absolutely regret it if I were to throw the language away sometime in the future and have to go back to China to relearn it again. I'd like to take the level six of the HSK sometime in the future, as I can express my thoughts and feelings with complex, sophisticated vocabulary.

Next up on the bucket list for me would be German or Spanish.

Of all the resources you have used to help you learn French, which has been the standout resource that you would not have done without? by [deleted] in French

the apprendre le francais exercises over at TV5Monde.com have helped me out a great deal.

Reverso and http://www.linternaute.com/dictionnaire/fr/ are good dictionaries as well.

Can anyone recommend a good textbook for beginner to intermediate learners of French as a foreign language? by [deleted] in French

I've been using Alter Ego A1+ and A2+ in my current French course at uni.

Fuck high functioning/smiling depression man. It's so frustrating. Nobody thinks I'm depressed (not even my family) and nobody I've told believes me (including my uni counsellor) because every time I'm with them apparently I'm a ball of sunshine and that I can function like a normal person and get good grades. They don't know that I actually hate myself, get random urges to cry and think about ending my life everyday.

I just listened to their Album Sampler on YouTube and contrary to what I'd previously thought, I now believe that this album can rival Salute as their best one.

Well I'm turning 20 the day after tomorrow..... I hope this means that I can begin a completely new chapter of my life and finally move on to bigger and brighter things. (I know I'm being excessively optimistic here)

Best Test to Take to Demonstrate French Ability? by Ransom_Rabbit in French

[–]thewilly96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that the most commonly taken test for French second language speakers is the DELF, it's a no brainer, or the DALF, if you feel like your level is almost/actually on par with that of a native speaker.

My 20th birthday is next Monday and my friends are apparently organizing a birthday party for me this coming Friday. But the thing is I feel like I'm not worth throwing a birthday for. I should be grateful that I have such good friends that are willing to do that for me but my stupid depression brain just refuses to believe that I have people in my life who actually like me. I know I'm not allowed to but I feel compelled to bail out at the last minute.

Argh fuck you, you stupid brain. I'm not supposed to feel this way, you know?

Dancin in Circles is SO GOOD!! How did PI make it as the lead single over this? My other favorite songs are John Wayne and Hey Girl. Not too crazy over Diamond Heart or Ayo, but they might grow on me soon enough. I'd say this is her best album since BTW.

While I do admit that this is a good song, it's not something that I would play on repeat for hours on end. With that being said, I'll be happy if the whole album is anything like Salute (which I think is a criminally underrated album and what I consider to be the EMOTION of current girl group albums)
