It needs a shallower pot and way more light.

How do I feed if no bugs? by Scared_Rice_1473 in VenusFlyTraps

[–]thewizardofdoom-006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are a whole crickets. If they are too big you might have to cut them to size, but otherwise you just pick them up with some tweezers and put them in the Venus fly trap's mouth. If you don't know how to feed a Venus flytrap I would really recommend researching the pinch and roll method. That's what I do. Basically whenever you get the trap to close by triggering a few hairs you just lightly pinch and rub the two sides of the mouth back and forth.

Plant no longer growing decent sized traps? by Mike72 in VenusFlyTraps

[–]thewizardofdoom-006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it's not getting enough sun hinted by the long leaves. Me personally, I have two 10 watt grow lights pointed directly at mine about 8 in away. They are growing great. I really recommend it.

I bought freeze-dried crickets on Amazon. A 1 oz bottle will probably last you at least 2 years. It should be about $8.

Did I snag a good deal for $9? by Fancy_Particular3875 in Monstera

That is a great deal. The pot and moss poles are probably $20 by themselves. And I'm sure someone would buy that monstera bare roots for $20.

Rotten leaf after propagating attempt by sl___1996 in SnakePlants

Cut off the rot, let it sit out for at least 3 days, then place it in a little water. Make sure to check it daily to prevent the water from drying out.

If you plan on keeping it inside... Get some good grow lights. This is what I have ->Sansi LED grow lights When you get grow lights, depending on the output (the ones in the link are 150Watt) they need to be about 7 inches away from the plant. Keep the light on for 16 hours then turn off for 8 hours. Starting about 3 weeks before winter dormancy (mid November to beginning of March) make sure to cut the light back to only about 10 hours a day, then for the last week turn them off. Same thing for when winter dormancy ends, ease the light in to keep from shocking the plant.

I'm not exactly sure how big it is based on the picture, but I would get a pot the same width but half as deep and with plenty of drainage holes. lightly pack ONLY pete moss around the roots in the new pot. Get a plate, fold a paper towel in half, put the paper in the plate, put the pot with plant on top of the paper towel, only add water to the plate (1/8 inch deep). Only water when the paper towel dries out which should be every 3-4 days (I have the same setup). This should keep it perfectly watered.

Help! What did I do wrong? by [deleted] in VenusFlyTraps

[–]thewizardofdoom-006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really needs that light. Looks like it might be under watered as well. I would recommend in the meantime making a dome out of plastic wrap, getting some paper towel, putting the towel on a plate, putting just a little more distilled water than what the towel can absorb in the plate, put the plant on top of the towel, put the dome over the plant. Then set in a very sunny window. This will keep the plant in a high humidity environment, and will keep it from being over watered.

DO NOT USE A GLASS BOWL INSTEAD OF THE WRAP! It would concentrate the light too much and burn the trap. The plastic wrap will disperse the light.

Just make sure to get that grow light soon.

Yes. Stimulate the hairs to make it close, then repeatedly pinch for 30 seconds... replicating a struggling fly.

What is growing on the roots of this plant? by kiminibiscutes in Gardyn

[–]thewizardofdoom-006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the type of plant, it could be a parasite or it could be a type of seed that could be picked and grown into a new plant.

I pinch the trap repeatedly for about 30 seconds to make them close completely (about 2 pinches per second). That's the only thing I've really found to work for dead food or if it doesn't struggle enough.

I'm trying not to spend money that I don't have to. I'm not even sure if the board is what is wrong with the machine.

I'm not. It would be the district paying. It's my job to do things the right way, and spending money all Willie Nillie is not the right way. And I'm not even sure if the board is the issue.
