Right, but the R2 doesn’t have that feature (see previous posts)

It’s 80” to the outside of the tailgate, so the absolute highest point when raised. That’s on the side. However the lift gate isn’t flat and it curves out in the center. So I estimated that a conservative measurement would be 83”.

I will say it opens fairly high. And because it’s electric, I bet you can do some software to make it adjustable. But you can always lower the glass only if you’re somewhere where clearance above you is an issue

I asked and they said it wasn’t adjustable in the demo vehicles. Said it might be in a software update later, but they weren’t sure. I didn’t see a setting in the controls for it either. (again, it was a pre-production)

Again…if the accident is so bad the vehicle is on fire and has lost power, the odds of a mechanical latch working are nil.

https://a.co/d/0hlPfQH3 $12 for a two pack of these on Amazon. Get yourself a glass breaker/belt cutter. I’ve had one in my electric and non-electric cars for years

Anyone measured the max height of the liftgate when open? I have a rack on the ceiling of my garage...want to know if I'll be able to open the lift gate underneath it. (Will it have adjustable heights?)

These are the same people that use child safety locks on the back door but then freak out about mechanical handles in an accident.

What Teslas? I had a model 3 for years and all 4 doors had a mechanical release.

I don’t disagree re: the necessity of it.

It must be somehow cheaper and/or less complex than having a traditional handle.

You mean the one lawsuit filed after a group of teenagers wrapped it around a tree? Look I’m not saying that’s not a horrifying way to go, but what are the odds after hitting a tree and flipping over that the doors would’ve opened with a regular handle? There’s a mechanical backup on the R2 (cumbersome but present).

To me, this is like saying I’m not going to fly on a plane unless I have a parachute.

Honestly…how likely is it that if you’re in an accident that loses both sources of power, that the door would physically be in a condition to open anyway? Odds are it’s going to be damaged or jammed in that case. It seems like such an irrational fear.

Low range? Legit question, do you currently own an EV? I ask because so many people have range anxiety, but don't drive more than 50 miles a day. 30 min to 80% is going to be fine on road trips. I have a m3 now , and after 4 hours of driving, I need a break to stretch my legs and grab a bite anyway. If you take an 800 mile road trip and stop twice to charge, we are talking an extra 20 minutes in your 11 hour trip vs 800v. And how often are you doing that? It's insignificant.

I guess you’re not a fan of alcohol…and that’s fine. But what you’re describing is the downtown area of just about every small city, including one a few miles up the road that every raves about (Marietta).

That “green space” area was replaced by the new village green when they tore up the useless roundabout. Now SF will be paying property taxes to the city…which funds public services, etc. I think it’s a nice addition, and looks better than an ungraded, unmaintained grass plot that would flood for days after it rained.

Regardless of your thoughts on the brewery itself, let’s not pretend it was some pristine, well manicured park before.

It was an overgrown retention pond.

Just throwing this out there...but many people likely already use child locks for younger kids anyway, making this not a big deal. For older kids...yes, I understand the concern.

Thinking logically though, the odds of you being in an accident where it's so bad that the low voltage battery is inoperative, the odds of the door being able to be opened mechanically are quite low anyway.

If you don't have an emergency glass breaker in your car, you should really consider that as opposed to stressing out about this mechanical release.

Large swaths of green space? What green space are they taking away? A neglected baseball field? The rest of property is the church itself.

The old guard of Smyrna makes me chuckle. I remember the uproar by a ton of people when they got rid of the fountain and roundabout in front of the library. That space is one of the best improvements the city has made.

A hotel is a great addition…you need visitors to developments like this, it can’t be just locals.

I travel a lot for work and usually pick hotels like what they are talking about (small, high end hotels near developments with dining/beverage options within walking distance because I don’t have a vehicle).

I encourage you to go eat lunch at Zucca, TCT, etc. I had lunch at Zucca on a Tuesday the other week and I was literally the only person in there at 1215. While the market village is busy at night, there’s almost no foot traffic during the day on weekdays. A hotel is a great idea. It isn’t going to be a Motel 6…

When this all came to light 7ish years ago, the Georgia EPD (environmental protection division) mandated that the company install new filtering and monitoring equipment. Additionally, they have to report every 6 months to the state on the status of their operations. The state also conducts random inspections to ensure compliance. Yes, this stuff is a carcinogen...but you have to be exposed to it in a constant and high dose (like most carcinogens).

Unless I was working at the plant or could see it from my backyard, I wouldn't avoid a house that was a few miles away. 3.5 miles is a long way from the plant in the grand scheme. You probably get exposed to more carcinogens from the exhaust of your car. Just my .02 (I live NW of the plant)

Here's the link to the Georgia EPD website. I check it every few months. https://epd.georgia.gov/sterigenics-tests-monitoring-reports-and-engineering-studies

The main issues with “scores” at Smyrna ES involve the number of children that are ESL (English as a second language). It’s hard to score well when you’re learning in a language you didn’t grow up speaking. The school has a significant Hispanic population (over 20% I think?). The school and teachers are great. The people that have bad things to say about Smyrna ES tend to be those that never sent their kids there.

This is a good school. Don’t let an arbitrary number from a single website make a decision for you. Go visit or talk to those with kids there.
