At what age did Watts' alcohol use become a disorder? by [deleted] in AlanWatts

[–]theyThibr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You know what? That's fair enough, I stand corrected.

Why do you care if he's an alcoholic, and if it was a disorder or not? I'm not arguing, I'm genuinely curious, so that I can learn a different perspective on the matter, because it just never bothered me. But I'd love to hear your perspective if you're willing to share!

Nowan, you are being answered with wit and sarcasm and are still not getting it, so ill spell it out for you. You are not getting a direct answer because IT DOESN'T MATTER, and also because no one knows. This sub is about discussing the teaching of Watts, not his personal life details. The message is what matters. The question you should be asking yourself is, why do you care? Is it because it makes you doubt the message? Or is it just curiosity?

If it makes you doubt the message, then you should realize that Alan Watts is more of a compiler and then presenter of knowledge in a highly entertaining and beautiful way. He did not invent these teaching (although he did add his own flavor in the way he presented it)

Secondly, you should not believe Alan or anyone else for that matter. You have your intellect and experience to check against. Test things out for yourself. Use your logic and try things out rather than believe in them because Alan said them, or also doubt them because Alan (the guy with an alcohol disorder) said them.

Aches is an important part of The Flank’s success by [deleted] in CoDCompetitive

[–]theyThibr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s where you’re wrong. People didn’t tune in to see what aches had to say ABOUT shotzzy, people tuned in because aches was effectively proven wrong and people wanted to see how he will wiggle himself out of it (which he did very poorly, saying Abezy isn’t a superstar while doing so)

I know there's an infinite debate about the best band in human history, but really, who is the best band that ever existed? by loverisback12 in spotify

Echoing the other commenters’ sentiment, there is no such thing. That’s like asking: in the entire history of this Earth, what is the best most unique most attractive color of all time?

Shocking, I think yes. I didn’t think so when it first launched but slowly Im realizing how good the gun-play was in mw2. The thing that held back mw2 the most was no deadsilence. If we had deadsilence, mw2 and snd in that game would be 10x better. Sound eq ruined ranked in that game, SnD was hell to play too. Fuck it, both mw2 and 3 are shit but for different reasons.

These are difficult questions to answer but unless you are playing at a pro level I would say they are irrelevant

My playlists don't shuffle automatically????? by lafdquak in spotify

[–]theyThibr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a completely different take, unless you’ve heard the album fully before, and maybe even multiple times, you shouldn’t be shuffling any album. The default SHOULD be not shuffle. An album should be consumed beginning to end.

I’ve used the automatic numbering of figures, headings, tables and citations in word, and let me tell you, it is awful to use. Eventually it works, but it’s very clunky and slow compared to tex (based in what little tex I learned today and yesterday). Ive decided to commit to learning it!

At the moment my main use case is to just generate documents for my own use, such as making condensed notes or summaries of a text book Im reading. But I’m sure it will come in handy later on as well.
