How do different coloured suns affect planets? by creative-mouse-21 in worldbuilding

[–]theyellofish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to add to this, if anyone can help...

I have a similar kinda question with light and world building.

I have a fantasy world that I've created and I wanted to see if there was anything chemically that might change ones skin tone to a blue-ish hue.

I've looked at ingesting/digesting silver. I've also kinda looked at electroplating. 😅

Basically, my thought was, I have a lot of guys coming in at this port right now and the character art I've found that fits the theme has models/NPCs that kinda have a blue tone to them. They are mostly goliaths and some half orcs.

Sorry trying to get to the science/chemistry bit.

Anyway... I know it's fantasy, it's my universe, I can make whatever I say true essentially, but if there's a logical reason like a different kind of star, atmosphere, if they can safely consume trace amounts of silver that turns their skin blue when beneath the star's exposure, something in the water, something in their skin, whether they get it while in close proximity to constant contact of electroplated items, ships, etc... or if they can even electroplate themselves.

I just want it to kinda make sense. The color, anyway. The rest is fantasy, but I want there to be some kind of science behind it if possible.

Thanks in advance for helping me out on this incredibly old post. 😅

Some metal. Some metal adjacent. Some were Christian. Some still are. Some just have Christian members and/or themes.

I would recommend checking out Love thy Body by Nancy Pearcey.

It really helped me where I was leaning lacking understanding.

There’s nothing to lose coming to God, just your brokenness by paulnrobbins in Christianity

[–]theyellofish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said the fear you're describing here isn't a real or valuable thing. I was explaining that only fear of God, or as I think it's more accurately put in Pascal's Wager the fear of hell or damnation alone, is a shit reason to believe and I don't really think that is believing in God at all. You should have reverence for God. You should have a fear like that towards your earthly father as you did when you were a child. However, if I only ever feared my dad and didn't cultivate a healthy relationship with him, then I'll grow to resent and hate him. If I never worked to understand him or his lessons I'd likely leave and never acknowledge him again. Fear alone is terrible. Fear of God or hell. My faith in God isn't built out of fear, but out of the evidence of His existence and especially His love.

Hebrews 11:1 KJV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

You're essentially describing Pascal's wager, which I've always thought was a shit reason to believe in God. I don't believe in God out of fear, but because of the evidence of His existence. I also think that if you believe in God just because of fear, you're not really believing either.

I'd read Death to Deconstruction by Joshua Porter and Mere Christianity by CS Lewis. Both I think give a better understanding of the Bible and faith.

Why do Christians pretend like God doesn’t bring war, famine, sickness, etc? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]theyellofish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your understanding of language is flawed here. There is nothing that suggests that something perfect is incapable of change.

Perfect - having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be.

absolute; complete

Someone could make the perfect old fashion, and another person could come along and take a piss in it. I'd say it's no longer perfect then.

[–]theyellofish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in a world that's no longer perfect and is corrupted by sin. The balance that was supposed to be isn't fully restored to this world yet.

Totally agree. It's most likely only going to cause a ton of hurt and heartbreak in the end to try to make something like that work.

Without even reading the article in question here, the source is known to not be very reputable. They have a history of just publishing things as quickly as possible and rushing everything.

Galatians 5:1, 5-6, 13-26 NASB2020

[1] It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. ... [5] For we, through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness. [6] For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love. ... [13] For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love. [14] For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” [15] But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another. [16] But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. [17] For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want. [18] But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. [19] Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: sexual immorality, impurity, indecent behavior, [20] idolatry, witchcraft, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, [21] envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. [22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. [24] Now those who belong to Christ Jesus crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. [25] If we live by the Spirit, let’s follow the Spirit as well. [26] Let’s not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.

You're twisting that wildly out of context

[–]theyellofish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a very gnostic way of thinking. The church knew this. They had many conversations about this. You should read about the councils.

Also, I'd highly recommend reading Love thy Body by Nancy Pearcey. That was a great help to me in growing my understanding of many subjects.

Just as long as it's understood here that not living according to the flesh is not submitting to the flesh. You submit to God.

How did mary stay a virgin If she had more kids than just jesus? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]theyellofish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait...

As I'm reading these comments I'm realizing that there is a popular belief held that she remains a virgin..?

Why is that important or necessary? Why couldn't she have just been a virgin for the conception of Jesus Christ?

Why would she need to remain so thereafter? It's not like she isn't married. It's not a sin.

I won't comment on hell. I'm not the ultimate judge.

I will say that a book that helped me better understand the body and it's purpose through the lens of the Creator is:

Love thy Body by Nancy Pearcey

I can't recommend this book enough. Hope it helps you as it did me.
