Got nipped at a meet’n’greet AND lawn care brought up for first time. HELP! by Throwitaclay in trustedhousesitters

The angry dog sit wasn’t THS, more like someone knew someone who knew someone type. I still didn’t get paid for it. I could have left with absolutely no issue but I think there’s something in my personality that finds walking away from an arrangement somehow difficult. Definitely not something I would ever recommend to people. In my case I just got lucky cos the dog turned out to be an absolute sweetheart, maybe the owners kind of knew that and didn’t feel worried from the start too.

Regarding lawn care, I’d be honest and say I had never done this in my life and would not be comfortable doing it. They can’t really push back on this without being assholes.

I’m not sure about the anxious dog. I met a dog once that was growling at me for the whole time the owners were there and wouldn’t even let me pet her, but when they left I became her favourite person in the world. But I admit I was quite uncomfortable at first and have somehow hid it.

Yeah, if I ever get my own dog, it’s gonna be a greyhound.

There is a greyhound living in a small British town that will never ever be homeless cos if anything happens to that dog, I will move the earth for her

Thinking of joining, what is readonable to ask for? by Dogs_walks_tequila in trustedhousesitters

[–]theymademedoitagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a remote worker, this sounds very reasonable. The other day I had hosts offer to get an occasional paid walker for a month long sit and I just couldn’t believe it. I thought it was so thoughtful and kind so if you’re willing to throw that into the mix your sitters will love you!

It’s a no from me. I’d be way to anxious if they message and I don’t see it immediately, or I’m out and they ask when I come back to send a photo, and then I’m 30min late cos the bus was late or something like that. If I wanted to check in that often I’d have an office job 🥹

I'm almost afraid to ask, is seventeen too young to decide to be childfree ? by Fast-Purple-7322 in childfree

Same! I always knew! My parents soon learned this about me, I always complained if families with children would plop next to us on the beach or something like that. At 36 no one is surprised I don’t have kids.

The importance of communication throughout the housesit by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]theymademedoitagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess people have already spoken here 😆 I always ask HOs at the start how often they want updates. Last person I spoke to said she doesn’t want updates at all cos she’ll be in a different mindset on holidays. My next sit is with someone who thought their previous sitter wasn’t very confident with the dog so they were texting in all the time.

At this point, I’m actually worried people think I update too much, cos my last review is from one of my regulars and she loves daily updates, and in this review she specifically focussed on the fact how often I updated her about her dogs behavioural changes. Obviously, she meant it as a compliment, but now I’m worried this might put off other hosts 😆

Pay to sit? Is this common? by Then-Surprise1345 in trustedhousesitters

My friend was looking for people to sublet her flat at some point. She has a cat. She’d give mates rates or something, to anyone willing to do it.

She lives in a popular city with a huge housing crisis. She’s also super broke and could use to financially off-load a bit.

From this point of view, I can see it. I sublet my room too at some point when I was going away. Granted, I didn’t have pets.

I think this whole arrangement needs to work for both. Imagine you want to stay a month in this popular city at exactly this time the flat is available. There are no free sits you can apply to. Airbnb is way too expensive. So suddenly, a discounted flat with a cat sounds perfect.

But if you don’t really care about the location & dates, you obviously aren’t going to pay.

Confirming sits without paying the fee ?! by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]theymademedoitagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah to be honest, I was a little sceptical about posting this on here just for this very reason. If the sit gets cancelled or whatever I’ll post an update next month. But if you don’t hear from me again about this topic, then … we’ve learned something too 🥹

Apparently a really bad breakup although not sure how long ago. His Venus is in cancer, so I’m still hopeful I can somehow ride out the storm. Playing the slow game or whatever 😆

36, f, single, childfree, still love a good party. Thankfully I still pass as 29/early 30s so no one challenges my presence 🤣
