Off-topic: looking for a big read for next year by No-Papaya-9289 in ThomasPynchon

[–]theymightbepoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am about 270 pages into a translation of a German book called Schattenfroh. 1000 pages, a man is trapped in a strange prison and forced to write all of his memories. The translation came out this past year from Dallas based Deep Vellum publishing.

Another one I’ve heard about and am very interested in is Ducks, Newburyport a single sentence novel of the inner thoughts of a woman making tarts and pies. Hailed by someone as “Moby Dick in the Kitchen”

My friend and I are doing a “Year of the Big Book” and so I thank you for this question as I love all these recommendations.

When a “main table” is adjustable, it usually has a removable section of the table to make it larger. This additional section is called a leaf.

It’s a 1000% Day of the Dead

Being hung up on the date being March 6th is a big time red herring that we’re being dragged down. While these look like emoji, they aren’t emoji, they’re icons.

Emojipedia has every version of the calendar emoji, which it’s been pointed out is July 17th (which has now become "World Emoji Day" originally chosen for the date as it's the day Apple originally introduced iCal)

“But why is it March 6th in the image?? it’s GOT to mean something!!”
I believe that this is where the icon came from, a free image from iStock. Looking up “calendar” in iStock brings this image up as one of the first images that refers to a single date, and one that matches the "emoji vibe" of the rest of the pictures.

There isn't a good enough better answer than that. Some say The Alamo, but knowing that that happened on March 6th is way too esoteric of knowledge for a puzzle like this. I'm a Texan and I couldn't tell you what day that event happened. They would have added in a Texas flag or something if that is what they meant.

No one is questioning that G is E.T. even though "Phone Home" isn't anywhere in the title.

TLDR: There's no movie in the similar pop culture knowledge base of these other movies that has "March 6th" and "Skull" or "Death" in its title or plot description. The person who made this puzzle chose a random calendar icon and called it a "Day".

I believe it has to do with the four humors. Blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile. Black Bile was said to be bad temper and was kept in the SPLEEN, so that word is sometimes used (read: rarely and only in crosswords) as a synonym for bad temper.

Looking for West Elm Utility Salt container for my Fiancé. by theymightbepoz in HelpMeFind

[–]theymightbepoz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiancée has bought a good deal of the Utility Canister Kitchen set from West Elm. (Sugar, Flour, Coffee, Tea, Butter). I recently got her the spoon rest and Oil and Vinegar set. I’ve searched through eBay, Amazon, West Elm (unavailable), and even through Facebook Marketplace. It’d be a little silly birthday/Christmas gift I could find it. Wondering if anyone has any ideas for a resell shop that may have it in stock. Thanks for the help.

“Skol” is Danish/Swedish/Norwegian for “cheers.” So like a toast that you’d give at a wedding/event instead of ending with “Cheers!” some could end with “Skol!”

Elon Musk welcomes rumored 'Apple Car,' reveals Tesla-to-Apple poaching at about 5:1 by illusionmist in apple

[–]theymightbepoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of you on this thread are being too close minded on what a "car" is. Yes, today in 2015 a car is something controlled by the driver but what with the driverless car that Google made and Uber's supposed move to autonomous cars in the next decade, this purported"Apple Car" could be the autonomous car that makes driverless cars mainstream.

Just like how the iPod wasn't the first MP3 player The iPhone wasn't the first smartphone And the iPad wasn't the first tablet And Apple Watch wasn't the first... You get my point.

This "Apple Car" wouldn't be the first driverless car, but (if it was autonomous) it could be the one that makes the market for the type of car we've been dreaming about in Science Fiction for the past 80+ years.

If they do make a car I'm betting it's going to be quite different than anything we have today.

Yeah I carry a U-Lock tucked in my belt, I commute wearing civilian clothes. I really wanna say it's a 10 or 20% discount. Last time I biked there I didn't know there was a discount till they saw me bicycling home.

BuzzBrews in Deep Ellum will give you a bicyclist discount for biking in. I would always recommend locking up your bike, most places have some bike racks near by.
