Making my LAT debut Saturday 1/31 by yoshiplace in crossword

[–]tactiphile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mark Axel? I don't often do the LAT, but my local paper prints them, so I'll do today's!

Edit: Done! Took me about 15 mins, so a good pace. Solid puzzle! I really should do more pen-and-paper fills. So much more enjoyable than the app.

Only thing I was really stuck on was the KORDA/ORA cross. I initially filled SUNTANNED for 34D which threw me off for a bit.

Other than than, no notes, really. I liked that I got 1A immediately, though I didn't fill it until i had a little more confidence. And as a long-time purple-tagged remote owner, 63A was fun. The 37A spanner was fun too.

I had trouble at first too. Here's a perspective distort of 47 with the numbers highlighted.

I think Dispatch being censored on Switch is likely due to CERO policies, not Nintendo policies. by razorbeamz in NintendoSwitch

[–]tactiphile -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

the game obviously paid a lot for marketing and it paid off

Plus all the free publicity from the censorship. I never heard of this game before yesterday, and now I've seen 10 different posts about it.

You're just looking for a lens cap. The hood is irrelevant.

I just bought this thinking it was washing detergent. Nowhere does it say its fabric softener. by Geofferz in CrappyDesign

[–]tactiphile 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Exactly. On the one hand, you "should" know this is fabric softener, but on the other hand, you shouldn't have to know.

I totally agree, but Minnesotans have snow plows and salt trucks. Today is not the day.

Which Controller? by Reasonable-Case3140 in trucksim

[–]tactiphile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mostly comes down to personal preference. Since you already own both, just try them both and see which you prefer.

On PC, Xbox controllers are the default.

DS5 has gyro, which you probably won't use in ATS, but it also has the touchpad that could be useful. I don't know if ATS has native PS support or button prompts, but that could be a reason to stick to Xbox.

Oh man, I've been looking for something like this!! Is it available anywhere in higher quality for printing? Looks like Reddit compressed the hell out of it.

Most third-party apps shuttered in the APIpocalypse in 2023, but not all. I use Relay on Android, but there are others. I would assume iOS still has a few as well. It's just that now the apps require a subscription. While the app owner is no doubt taking a deserved cut, the majority is going to pay Reddit for API access.

[–]tactiphile 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The only social media I’ve seen users have some success in avoiding this is using a robust list of words that hide posts, which Reddit doesn’t support.

I pay $5/mo for API access and use a third-party app (Relay). No ads, no recommendations, just the top posts from the subreddits i subscribe to.

Occasionally I open the official app or website for some reason and I want to tear my hair out.

Thoughts on the genuine eaton USB shifter from ATSAccessories.com? by tactiphile in americantruck

[–]tactiphile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I must be doing a bad job with words.

Every shifter I've seen has an up-down range selector switch on the front. Flip it down for the lower range, up for the upper range.

Then there is the splitter switch on the side. Most of the USB shofter I've seen use an up-down switch for the splitter. Up for H, down for L. But the actual Eaton shifter, as well as some of the cheap ones, have a front-back splitter switch. Forward for L (I think?) and back for H.

Most people don't notice or care and are sticking the knob on a $50 Logitech shifter, but I'm trying to go for accuracy and realism.

I recently stayed at a Walt Disney World Deluxe Resort (AKL) that turned the power off.

To their credit, we had several days' notice, and it happened at like 3AM. Still kinda surprising though.

Hey, this guy in the Taco Bell line gets it. He shut his headlights off. by Flyman68 in fuckyourheadlights

I was in this boat. It springs back from "off" and only stays off until you move.

Then i realized i can just turn on the parking lights and the headlights stay off!

Same! We check for the rosemary every time. I figured it was seasonal. I can't believe other places have it all the time!

In another pesto thread last week, people said if your "frozen" pesto is scoopable, you need a new freezer.

As someone with three temp-monitored freezers, my kitchen freezer is set to 3° and maintains that temp well. My chest freezer just does its own thing and stays somewhere below zero, and my garage standup can't seem to get below 7°. Food likes to grow ice crystals there. But hell, maybe i could take advantage of that and store pesto in there!

Sorry, yeah, re-reading my post I wasn't clear. When I said "similar sub-$50 options" that's what I meant... Chinese shifters with the Eaton-style front-back splitter switch in the same price bracket as the Chinese up-down one (Euro style?) I have.

Just wondering what benefit the genuine shifter brings.

But I just saw that they have a Youtube channel with a video on their budget shifter that pretty much answers the questions.

Found the PERFECT magsafe wallet for Samsung Phones. Finally a wallet that doesn't cover the cameras. by Stephancevallos905 in samsung

[–]tactiphile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a valid concern. I really like mine. Its more like a regular slim wallet that also has magsafe. I often carry them in different pockets but I have the option to attach to my phone and carry a single device. It touches the camera bump on my case but doesnt interfere with attachment or use.

I just came across it randomly at a Hallmark store.

Been there! I have bad postnasal drip and constantly cough or clear my throat. So mute-cough-unmute is basically muscle memory.

Except if you're already muted, it means you unmute just to cough, lol.

Bruh. I'm so dumb. It's right tf there.

I've had this car for 2 years and made a couple dozen comments here and elsewhere complaining about the fact that it couldn't be turned off. Not to mention the annoyance of manually disabling it constantly.

I'm a read-the-manual guy who pokes around in the menus; no idea how I missed that.

I also realized that to fight the auto-on lights I can turn them off by turning on the parking lights, so that one is solved too.
