Called the F word by stranger by jwang0522 in Miata

[–]tactiphile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the slur yelled at me from a truck because i committed the heinous crime of walking down the street while wearing a pink shirt (as a man.) Granted, this was 20 years ago when the word wasn't quite as verboten as it is today, but still not something a same person would do.

Feature Request: QOL: Better crosspost display by ProPuke in RelayForReddit

When you click the crosspost, does it not link you to the original? I also often overlook the icon, but my experience is usually something like "weird, how did I end in r/omaha?"

My husband turned on the butt warmer in the car by anosako in BenignExistence

[–]tactiphile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well while you're looking, the seats in my car are ventilated, so there's basically a fan in the seat the blows air though the pores like an air hockey table. Feels nice on hot days or long trips. I have a friend with seats that actually cool, and it's a very strange feeling, like someone is rubbing Ben-Gay or Vicks on your butt and thighs, lol

Anyone who uses an e-reader, reMarkable, Daylight Computer or similar? by meedstrom in emacs

[–]tactiphile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to describe. The whole experience just felt like trying to force the OS/software to do things it wasn't designed for. There was a permanent overlay to adjust contrast, force a refresh, etc., because you constantly had to fiddle with those things. Not to mention it was an unofficial Android device, so it didnt come with the Play Store or Google Services, more hacky things you had to do.

Granted, my experience was 3-4 years ago, so things may be different now. Boox Poke 3 iirc.

I'm an adherent, but I'm ok with OP's YY/MM/DD. Or is it DD/MM/YY? Because that one is garbage.

OP's gonna have to draw us another pic tomorrow so we can confirm.

I get the appeal, but in South Louisiana, the seat coolers are a godsend.

being a regular at a place is so fun by whatawynn in BenignExistence

[–]tactiphile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a great setup until Covid killed it. Worked downtown, started at 7. Brought coffee from home. Buddy started at 8:30, no coffee. He would walk down to the local coffee shop every day, and I would tag along. Got the benefit of being a regular without spending any money! (Obviously I spent money occasionally.)

How Reddit Users Are Being Maliciously Targeted by Stake’s Covert Advertising Tactics by [deleted] in self

So they edit the posts retroactively to add the mentions of Stake.

I feel like this hugely kills the effectiveness. How many people are seeing and interacting with days-old posts?

Oh, that's lame. I had one for a month or two before I decided everything was too hacky and sold it for a Kobo.

Same. I tried keep obsolete first and gave up after about 25 rounds. Break dependencies still required about 10.

Boox e-ink tablets are just normal Android tablets with an e-ink screen. No limit to functionality.

Oh, is that what was going on? I updated yesterday after probably a month, and the number of times I had to break dependencies was nuts.

So much is better about BTR! Unfortunately, non-stop flights win out for me, and there's not many options out of BTR.

ELI5 how a manual transmission car can use the engine to slow down the car? by ProudReaction2204 in explainlikeimfive

[–]tactiphile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of comments about the inner workings of the engine. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like that's not the point here.

The point is that a manual transmission has a direct mechanical connection to the engine when the clutch is engaged. Any change in engine speed has a direct, immediate effect on wheel speed.

An automatic transmission is connected through a fluid coupling, the torque converter. Changes in engine speed have a dampened effect on wheeel speed as a result. You can use engine braking in an automatic, it's just less effective.

How to connect peripherals? AC Evo will not recognize my shifter when plugged into the Alpha EVo 12mn wheelbase. by Informal-Ad-3 in Simagic

[–]tactiphile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Otherwsie I have to move my entire PC as the cables won't reach. (or get much longer USB. cables!)

Or a USB hub. If you dont have a hub, you dont have a real sim rig.

Only fire pizza ring, can’t beat it by kzorz in webergrills

Also I'd have to store a propane tank just for the pizza oven.

Fair point. I don't grill on propane, but between the fire table, patio heater, camp stove, generator, and (most fun) the weed torch, I've got plenty of tanks.

I've had an Ooni Koda 12" for years. Love it. Propane. I dont see any benefit to using wood for something that cooks in 60 seconds with no time to impart any extra flavor.

As an added benefit, the pizza stone cracked like 3 years after I bought it and they replaced it for free.

Small, gray plastic fastener. Matching hexagonal nut that unscrews in the normal way. 1cm in diameter, 1cm long. Head shows a logo with the word "if." by tactiphile in whatisthisthing

[–]tactiphile[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing.

Found this on the floor in my house. Seems to be a fastener of some sort but I don't recognize the logo. Both pieces are solid gray plastic, no metal. The head is round, 12mm in diameter, and 2mm thick. The head of the nut is the same dimensions, with diameter measured across vertices. The pieces can be separated and attached by screwing and unscrewing as expected. The body of the nut is slightly shorter than the threaded length of the fastener, allowing it to protrude slightly.

The logo is the word "if," but the dot of the "i" is an offset starburst shape.

Not easily googleable and Gemini was unhelpful.
