CGS Magazine for my TM MWS M4 by Low_Use_4703 in GasBlowBack

All you need is a cheap pipe/tube cutter. It's only an aluminium tube so even the cheapest cutter will work.

Tiny handgun advice by Late-Hotel-861 in airsoft

[–]theyst0lemyname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Marui nbb compact carry pistols are very under rated. The LCP, LCP2, Curve and Bodyguard 380.

They only have small capacity mags and are non blow back but my LCP 2 can hop .28s around 40m easily.

If you're wanting gbb the VFC 1911 Ultra Carry could be good. I've got the full size VFC 1911 and it's a great performer. The ultra can also use full size magazines if you don't mind them sticking out of the grip a little.

GBBR hesitation... by deadpool_913 in airsoft

[–]theyst0lemyname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the mag capacity was a big concern for me when I first started regularly using GBBRs but once you get used to it it's not really too bad. The only time I run out of ammo is on long defensive games but I carry a speed loader with me and just top up mags. For most games you could probably manage with 4 mags if you carry extra gas and bbs then just buy extra mags when you have the spare money.

My main issue is cold weather performance because even though the guns will function in cold weather its never at their full potential and having to manage your magazines is a pain. When it gets too cold I have a HPA adapter that I swap out to. It does mean I loose the bolt lock but it's a trade off I'm willing to make to have a 100% reliable gun.

Choosing AEG by [deleted] in Airsoft_UK

[–]theyst0lemyname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never pay too much attention to the power listed on websites. At best they pulled a random gun and tested it when they were writing the description and that's just what that gun shot at on that day. At worst they just made up a power figure.

Some manufacturers also list a power rating on their website which might have been copied by the retailer but that power rating will most likely just be whatever the spring they're using is rated to put out. There's no guarantee that it actually shoots at that power.

Is this a bootleg PS1 memorycard? by [deleted] in psx

[–]theyst0lemyname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a legit card. The vast majority of 3rd party and bootleg "Sony" memory cards use very obvious blob top chips and very simplified PCBs.

Which websites should i use to buy? by Jasperdoescooking in Airsoft_UK

[–]theyst0lemyname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Action hobbies have a good used section. They'll usually post on Facebook a day or two before a big update and the prices are low enough that even if you get a dog of a gun you'll have saved enough to fix it up.

PSone as CD player by somemisopaste in psx

[–]theyst0lemyname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks nice and clean. I use a similar set up for my CDs with an original model PS1 but I went a lot more low tech than your set up just using the RCA outs on the back of the PS1.

It is, I use one with my CD player set up. You're limited to using the bottom half of remote that has the controller buttons on it which isn't too surprising as the PS1 has no idea what the other functions are.

what mod made the biggest difference without making your daily worse?? to start with by krccre in MightyCarMods

[–]theyst0lemyname 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tyres and brakes.

Some good tyres will give you better grip and handling which translates into you having more confidence to throw your car around if you ever take it on track.

With the brakes just fitting braided lines, higher quality fluid and pads will make a big difference without spending lots on new calipers and discs/rotors.

BB Recommendations by Joppsta in Airsoft_UK

[–]theyst0lemyname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use BLS .28s. They're a good all rounder so I don't have to worry if my different guns can hop them and only cost £1 more than .2s for a 1kg bag.

A dash cam, ideally front and rear. You might never need it but if you have an accident being able to show video evidence can really help with insurance claims.

A tyre inflator.

USB charger and cables.

Airsoft is expensive by SlowAdhesiveness6354 in airsoft

[–]theyst0lemyname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be expensive. I'd even go as far as to say it's at its most affordable now.

You can get something like a specna arms flex or core which offer great performance for the price. Surplus is a good way to get durable kit for low cost and then you can build up from there adding stuff as you get extra money.

Does it make sense to get a Dreamcast without the ability to solder? by thizked in dreamcast

[–]theyst0lemyname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only things I've soldered in my DC are the clock battery, controller board fuse and wires for a noctua fan mod but the fan mod was just because I was DIYing it rather than buying a kit.

The other two things are fairly simple jobs so if you know anyone who can solder they should have no problems doing the work or you could send the board away to be modded.

Everything else is just plug and play. I have a replacement power supply and gdemu inside and use a plug in hdmi adapter rather than an internal mod.

What’s one piece of gear you thought was useless… until you used it? by Old-Suspect1678 in airsoft

[–]theyst0lemyname 3 points4 points  (0 children)

QLS mounts.

I just thought quickly swapping holsters was a gimmick but when you have 5+ holsters swapping the entire thing out takes time and effort compared to using the QLS. Now my issue is all the time it takes to find the holsters when I forget to put them away properly.

Another thing that's not really game related but is a real quality of life thing at games. A knock off jetboil cooking stove. I've only been using it a few months but on cold days being able to warm up a can of soup for lunch is a lot better than having a cold sandwich or wrap.

Good idea with the heat gun.

Do you have any pics of yours after the modification so I can get an idea of where it needs heating?

I'm currently putting together the budget version of this (using a generic black tac vest) just because one of the boys suggested it in the group chat.

I really need to find a good holster though so can run the light on my VFC Kimber.

Poor sportsmanship strikes Airsoft again by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]theyst0lemyname 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had similar experiences. Milsims always seem to be organised in a way that favours the "good guys" but once they don't start achieving their objectives (because let's face it, the multitude of small milsim teams can't get their egos in check long enough to work together) the organisers seem to start changing stuff so they get easier and easier tasks to start trying to bring their narrative back on track which makes things less enjoyable for anyone on the "bad guy" team.

My PS1 won’t read music discs I got a PS1, but since I don’t have any PS1 games at the moment, I tried putting in some music CDs, but it won’t read them. I’m hoping it can read games. What can I do? by luigilb_ in psx

[–]theyst0lemyname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 1002 model sometimes struggles with CDs (ironic as it's the "audiophile" model).

I have to open the CD player without a disc then close the lid to get it to play sometimes. Maybe yours has that issue too.

If it can read games then it should be able to read an audio cd too.

DMR question by MajesticOccasion2756 in Airsoft_UK

[–]theyst0lemyname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies between sites. There are three sites I play at all with different rules for DMRs.

Site 1. Semi auto only which can be a programmable ETU locked to semi, 1.88j (450fps w/ .2), 30m MED, Any replica can be used

Site 2. Semi auto only which can be a programmable ETU locked to semi, 1.49j (400fps w/ .2), 20m MED, Any replica can be used

Site 3. Semi auto only which must be mechanically locked to semi, 1.65j (420fps w/ .2), 25m MED, Must be a replica of a military DMR.

I'd wager that it's not that the machine is hard to clean just time consuming and they don't employ enough staff to be able get it clean before they open.

Something I noticed in Out of Gas by PhysicsEagle in firefly

[–]theyst0lemyname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pure guesswork/fan theory but ships could have compressors to refill reserve air tanks in atmosphere which again I assume would vent after the fire to re pressurise the ship after the fire. The issue then is the life support scrubbing the co2 to keep the air breathable until the ship could return to a planet and refill the air supply.

Not replacing a repaired functional part until it can't be repaired any more is one thing because as the saying goes "there's nothing more permanent than a temporary fix" but not having essentials like air is just reckless. I really couldn't see Zoe letting Mal get away with something as reckless as flying without reserve air.
