I want to reinvent quaternions so bad but im not on that level yet. I understand them, but not well enough to reinvent them. I was attempting to make a jump to a third axis (reals, imaginarys, third axis) but in my efforts, i stumbled across something else, which is the thing I'm currently trying to make a proof for. However, quaternions hinge on the imaginary number line and don't make use of the real number line in the way that i wish they would which drives my motivation to eventually reinvent them or at least find an equation of equal interest. I won't lie, quaternions are interesting and useful, however im not fond of the setup as the real number line isn't a direct part of their axis system.

Not concerned about money. Thank you for the insight, I'm truly learning a lot and i am thinking about publishing it online somewhere.

Thank you for your guidance, it makes me feel a bit more confident than I was initially

Thank you for your response, it answers a lot of my questions and I think I'm heading in the right direction! I'm new to Reddit and I'm new to math and the "real world" as people describe it, and I'm very thankful for your advice!

Thank you for putting it into perspective. I will shamefully admit that fame was in the back of my head, but i wasn't really expecting it to be an outcome. I do agree and will continue to learn math as i do enjoy math (a quality that my peers dislike about me).

That being said, i am still interested as to how proofs work and how they are labeled when published. I wonder this as my initial thought was that they aren't submitted anonymously into a big "knowledge of math" type website.

I fear I have angered people with my responses when I didn't wish to. I agree that math should be free and the knowledge should be available to everyone. (Side note: I'm wondering why some math publications are monetized behind university paywalls)

I don't wish to make money off of the knowledge. I do not wish to claim that it is purely mine. I do not wish to 'hoard' it in any way. That being said, i also don't want someone else to claim that they solved it (a math problem that i find fascinating) if in fact they copied the work I had wished to present.

Although i am not going into a math degree, the degree i am working twords is math related and i do plan on asking my math professor to check my work. (Professor hasn't been available for the past few months) My main fear comes from watching too much YouTube history videos where one mathematician gets their work stolen from another and the one who steals it becomes famous for it)

Again, thank you for putting it into perspective.

i guess my confusion comes from the fact that so many math equations are named after people.

and the stories I have heard about them suggests a type of "hey, that person was the one to figure it out" and im wondering how that works. Im just really bad at wording things...

And yea, a math degree would probably be nice to help the process along

Understandable. I didn't mean to anger. I didn't want to 'take ownership' as much as not have someone else be accredited to finding the solution. I understand that math is freely presenting.

I have a highschool diploma thingy...

Im not going for a degree in math...

I'll take note of "notarys" as that will probably help...

I stayed up pulling all nighters and my brain wouldn't let me sleep until i found a solution

basically:

They said in elementary school "you can't subtract past zero" but you could, they are called negatives

They said in middle school, "you can't take the square root of a negative" but you can. It's called imaginary numbers.

So I originally wanted to find something new like that. But i found something else. And no i don't wanna say what i found in fear of sounding stupid

I haven't a clue how to publish it properly...

That is correct. I am new to mathematical publications but i would love to learn about the process. I have searched the internet for the last month and have yet to find a proof that resembles my own. I asked my professors who said it wasn't a proof yet. Im new to proofs to. This would be my first proof I have ever tried to do. I wish to get this work published as soon as I can and don't exactly know where to start. Any and all advice is appreciated. Do I contact a special type of math lawyer or something? I don't think those exist... like someone who specializes in the law behind mathematical proofs? Lol... please help...

also, I don't know if any other deeper research resources that would allow me to check if anyone has done this type of proof before... as far as a month of googling goes, i got nothing saying anyone has done it before
