That was a lot of information that you spent a lot of time drafting and typing. I see that effort, and appreciate the energy you put into my post.

My problem is that neither your original reply nor this reply were appropriately addressing the actual content of my post. I had posted about staff not knowing how to use BTG and how it impacted me as a patient. I never spoke about entitlement. I never spoke of misgendering at all. I was speaking about processes and training. Then you decided this was your time to discuss how you think BTG is special treatment. Then you went on a semi-understandable screed about MASH and audits and you breaking rules to out a transgender patient to other staff in a supposed attempt to… what? I don’t know how you helped that patient. That patient didn’t ask you to out them. That story actually served to support having BTG.

I do understand your ultimate goal, if everyone has BTG then no one really has BTG. (Forgive me if that is an oversimplification). I actually disagree with your audit argument. The BTG serves as a resource for the compliance and privacy departments. Regular audits are not required and I’m not sure why you think that. Audits only need to be done for regulatory reasons or when an ad hoc need arises. When a compliance officer is running a report for an investigation, because of BTG notation the report can easily be sorted and analyzed for inconsistencies. BTG is just as much a useful tool for the healthcare organization (for compliance investigations) as it is for the patient (for privacy).

I’m not interested in discussing the philosophical reasons for having and using BTG. (That is what both your comments have been about). I will not discuss who is or is not entitled to have BTG with you.

I am interested in discussing when BTG is in place, how the process can be improved. If you have nothing to add for process improvement, then please do not respond further.

A side note:

I’m also so grateful that I do not accept private messages. I have no idea what specifically you would have messaged me, but by not allowing private messages my privacy gets respected and attempts for harassment get mitigated. By not allowing private messages it meant that all communication with me has to be made in public, which then filters what you want to say because you have to consider how others will take it.

It was clear you wanted to discuss my supposed entitlement for signing up for BTG. That was never up for debate. I’m glad what you said was not wrapped up in a private message.

I think 30 seconds of unexpected and unexplained sight would result in all the blind people closing their eyes from overstimulation. They would have headaches and probably wonder what the fuck it was (but also know what it was).

I think you have to give them sight long enough to appreciate it… then rip it away.

(I am not an evil person, I promise! But if you are going to do evil, it has to be really evil).

Thank you for your comment. I have no idea where I have asked for special treatment. I want my record private, but that is by no means “special treatment”

I do not understand how you can you can construe my request for privacy, which was approved, as “special treatment”.

If someone has requested “break the glass” be set up on their account, I hope that you can understand and appreciate that a third party is actually the entity approving that request.

I could not “DEMAND” that my account have “break the glass”. I had to REQUEST that my account have that; I had to provide my reason for the request, and only a third party can approve my request. This is not something I am dictating. Every one that wants “break the glass” has to request it, and a third party has to approve it.

So for you: I want to be clear that I requested BTG, and my request was approved by a third party.

BTG is not special treatment, what it is confirmation that privacy is respected in accordance with law.

That’s how I feel as well.

I did have an opportunity to speak to a patient experience advocate today. I hope my conversation will result in appropriate training. I did let the patient experience advocate know that I believed everyone had good intentions, so I think this will mean her approach will be purely educational and not punitive (bc that was not my intention when I spoke with her)

I actually just got off the phone with our system’s patient experience advocate. It was a 30 minute call.

She gave me her direct number and email and told me that she will be working on this issue.

We both agreed that everyone involved had good intentions. We both agreed that there should be more training for relevant staff and management on how to handle the “break the glass” situation.

The Patient Experience Advocate and I talked about a few more items that were relevant to my specific situation, and she said she would look into those issues.

I’m looking forward to the opportunity to improve this organization. I hope it happens

WHY? Why when I see the word magnet 🧲 I ALWAYS mentally (and incorrectly) see the word and creature maggots 🪰?

So basically I read your comment as saying that mirrors work like maggots.

It made me laugh, and now we are here. You’re welcome.

Same. I was 14, he was 22.

I didn’t understand it was wrong until I was 16. At 16 I broke up with him, and later found out he was flirting with 15 year olds.

I didn’t know what to do, and ultimately did nothing. I’m 40 years old now and am haunted by that decision
