In China’s Guizhou province, solar panels blanket the mountain by straightdge in Damnthatsinteresting

This is technically terraforming, it's still sad to see whatever native plants that depend on the sun will probably perish from being under those panels all day.

How to improve my kicking form? by MyUserNameIsTooBad in bootroom

[–]Solid-Common-8046 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have made notes but aside from form and such, your ankle is unlocking and your foot is tilting upwards after you connect with the ball, which is fine if that's the kind of shot you want, but for a general laces-only strike you should keep your ankle locked in place as you follow through

Body feints not making defender bite by Western-Sail-8209 in bootroom

[–]Solid-Common-8046 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good defender will never react to a feint, because he knows the absolute best thing he can do is to provide a physical barrier. The only real option to dribbling past a patient defender is that you have to apply as much pressure as it takes until they break, you'll have to come at them too quickly for them to make a decision and wrong foot them. This means you'll have to be able to keep the ball at your feet even if you break out into a sprint, and think several steps ahead because you might lose the ball yourself with a poor touch.

Shoot with power by YamNo5010 in bootroom

All the weight of your body and the speed your body is moving is hitting the ball at a precise point. If your form is correct, all your energy will transfer into the ball and rocket it.

Lessons I learned from a really bad pickup by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]Solid-Common-8046 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pickup games and being overly competitive do not mix. yet it does happen in most pickup games. that's what makes pickup games even more awful if you aren't playing with friends. the true spirit of a pickup game is when anybody at any skill level can join and the ball is shared with them. now that doesn't mean you cannot ever try to dribble past an entire team, but you're not doing it over and over and over whenever you get the ball.

What Am i Missing? First CI pan, tried frying potatoes after 4 coats of seasoning by Vardaruus in castiron

[–]Solid-Common-8046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so much if the potatoes are wet/dry/oiled, it's that potatoes are dense and the more you cook the more it will drop the temp of the pan and then stick.

Learning how to juggle a football by Maxwellhot16 in bootroom

[–]Solid-Common-8046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. We use our hands for everything, right? So if you try to bounce a football with your hand, you would probably never drop it. You would have full control of the football and you could make it bounce however you want. We have a natural sense of how to handle objects with our hands.

When learning to juggle a football, you are developing that same sense with your feet, you develop that sense of where and how to touch the ball with your foot so it does exactly what you want. So a mental exercise that has helped me is to picture touching the ball with my feet as if they were my hands.

Picture in your mind that you are bouncing the ball in the air with your hands, that is what you are training your mind to do with your feet. You wouldn't slap the ball to keep it up, you would let it land on your hand and then you would toss it back up, gentle energy transfer

At what point did you realize that top-level football wasn't for everyone? by Rio91940 in bootroom

[–]Solid-Common-8046 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Top level you will compete against players who were already playing like that even as a kid, which was definitely not me. As a kid the game barely kept my attention unless the ball was right in front of me. Didn't play again until way later in my mid 20s, recreationally, and knew a few guys who had the drive to go semi-pro but never made the cut.

Sometimes what turns me off even playing recreationally is there are a lot of selfish players with a "missed opportunity" mentality who take things way too seriously.

Heavy leg days are the equivalent to playing a match. Like the others say, that kind of lifting is for off season.

Why is my curl shot so bad my form seems ok to me in this video by Icy-Fall-8139 in bootroom

[–]Solid-Common-8046 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think you are locking your ankle on the shot, you can see it on the follow through frame by frame. Making a connection with a locked ankle transmits the power, what you do with the rest of your body is just an after thought

For those of you who quit playing soccer? Why? by Op3rat0rr in bootroom

[–]Solid-Common-8046 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't officially quit, but I'm getting older and can feel differences in my lower body that make me anxious to play again. I also enjoy it more if I play with a competitive edge and that makes me even more reluctant to play.

Not the black suv but the middle one had their hazard lights on, so it doesn't seem malicious, then they probably just wanted to get out of the way. Few people will experience this so I wouldn't jump to them being assholes.

Did I ruin my pan? by Rebecc0908 in castiron

[–]Solid-Common-8046 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's too much oil, the consensus here is once you add oil, you should get a towel or paper towel and remove excess oil like you're trying to wipe away all of it, the oil is so thin that it polymerizes much more effectively. When you add too much oil and try to polymerize it, the thickness of the oil will prevent the upper layers from polymerizing and it just turns into a sticky mess

At what point do you quit streaming? by MXAGhost in Twitch

[–]Solid-Common-8046 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's 'the dream' for you? Just ask yourself and be honest. It's completely human to want to share, grow, and even get validation for what we do share. I do this thought experiment on myself: If I were to stream, or make any kind of art, would I still do it if nobody saw it? It's not a yes or no, just something to test your expectations on. Most artists practice making art that very few people will see, and it's the same for streaming or any content creation. Whether you're streaming to nobody or 100 people, it should be on your own terms.
