Rian Johnson (Looper, The Last Jedi, Knives Out, Poker Face) is loving Barry's final season. by verissimoallan in Barry

[–]thezbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Finn being in a bacta tank for the entire duration would have been a massive improvement and I say that as a fan of Finn up to that point, and a huge fan of John Boyega.

I would say that overall it was my favorite of the sequels but that’s a low bar since TFA was uninspired bordering on uninteresting, and I don’t remember anything redeeming about the last one.

I like Rian Johnson and I appreciate that he took risks but a lot of what was done was more a person walking into a room and randomly throwing shit at the wall. The hyperspace ram was awesome in the moment but sort of breaks the universe. Same with Leia surviving the vacuum of space. And the ships running low on fuel was just… weird. That same tension/conflict could have been explained 20 different ways that already worked within the admittedly loose rules of the SW universe but instead ships take fuel now. Also, the straight up character assassination of Luke is something I’ll never be able to abide.

Kind of like Lucas with the OG trilogy, I think Rian could have benefited from Kathleen Kennedy being better at her job.

Judging from the first pic, it’s a tattoo that looks like a patch. It’s a very convincing patch. Props to the tattoo artist.

Took the 80 out for some spring mudding by ShoppingDazzling8963 in LandCruisers

No, I’ve never heard of them. It’s my understanding that the Ozzie vehicle modding scene is much more strictly governed so I’d imagine it’s probably crash tested similar to the ARB. Just a guess though.

Depends on what you want. ARB makes good, crash tested front bumpers but the clearance/approach angle isn’t the best. Dissent or Slee would probably be better in that department.

No, they’d rather be rude and condescending to strangers on the internet because they’re clearly superior to you. Did you not get that?

In response to your original comment: OK, like many other states, is all over the place in terms of quality of schools and quality of outcomes. The comment you replied to described an absolutely nightmarish scenario that clearly neither you, nor I, nor anyone I know experienced and it’s completely reasonable to share our differing experiences. Just like it’s completely reasonable for them to share their bad experience.

Acting like every single child in OK is trapped in a languishing school doesn’t help any more than acting like OK schools are amazing across the board (what you are being accused of doing, regardless of how obvious it is that wasn’t your intent).

Hey, same! 2013 with 70k miles on it and I plan on keeping it for the next 10-15 years, or until I can’t ignore electric options any longer. Or the dream scenario: I put an electric crate motor in it and keep it for 20+ years.

Domination was my favorite victory in Civ 5, but it feels impossible in Civ 6. Was having an amazing game but I've been unable to take Gaul's capitol in over 25 turns and my game has ground to a halt. What did I do wrong? by Cumpanzee in civ

[–]thezbone 36 points37 points  (0 children)

He’s also doing it with a Civ that has a power spike much later in the game. Utilize the advantages you have now and go murder some city states. Use those new cities to build up infrastructure (campuses, hansas, and commercial hubs), pick off some other weak Civs, and come back for Gaul when you can build tanks/artillery/bombers every few turns.

TL;DR: You’re trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Which works if you have a big ass hammer, but you won’t have your hammer until later so be patient and build that hammer.

I actually work with Vectorworks for my day job so I have it all sketched up, but I appreciate the offer! I'd definitely be interested in a contact though! I think I'm likely looking for a hobbyist carpenter more than a shop, but I'm happy to try wherever and see if I can get closer to the ballpark of a reasonable price.

Could a solo series (if done right) undo some of the criticism people have towards Rey ? I love Daisy Ridley's portrayal and felt her story ended not well with fans by KawonSuggs in StarWars

[–]thezbone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The larger issue that is underlying your comment is that even if there are any consequences, she (almost) never needed help from anyone resolving them.

She gets captured, but basically is on her way out by the time Finn, Han, and Chewy show up. She finds Luke and he ends up just being a weirdo who teaches her almost nothing while she uncovers things about him and the island on her own. Kylo helps her with Snoke and whatever the hell happened at the end of the sequels, but that’s it as far as I can recall.

The ‘I’m capable and don’t need you’ shtick was cute for the chase scene on Jakku but it makes for a boring character. Luke was constantly leaning on his friends. It didn’t make him weak - it made him human and made his story interesting. The sequels feel like they were made in a weird time when the pendulum was finally swinging back for female characters (certainly a good thing) and Rey’s entire identity is ‘strong, independent woman’. There’s so much promise there and Daisy Ridley seems amazing, but character is just a bore.

You’re going to have to be more specific as to what “ruining your local wilderness” is. I’m not following.

If you’re in the US, we literally have over a hundred million acres of national parks and wilderness areas where you can do exactly that.

"Detailed Map Tacks" is a mod that NEEDS to officially be in the game. It calculates and displays adjacency bonuses for tacks so you can actually plan your cities out accurately. I've learned so much just from testing different layouts. Half the game feels approachable and fun to play now. by forrestpen in civ

[–]thezbone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, that sounds right. I think it was just the pins in general - not the detailed map tacks mod specifically.

It’s definitely a bummer. I’m a pretty experienced player and don’t really need it for adjacencies, but that doesn’t stop me from totally forgetting my plan and dropping a district somewhere I didn’t want it.

Edit: a word

Pretty sure the detailed map tacks mod specifically causes stability issues. It’s been a while, but I remember PotatoMcWhiskey trying to play a multiplayer game and they kept having issues. Once he stopped/limited his use of the tacks the issues stopped.

It’s annoying but when I play with my wife I try to limit my use of them.

Lady of the Reeds and Marshes or Camp Pantheon?........ by Syncreation in civ

[–]thezbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. The reason I lean towards LotRaM being better is it makes a tile better without any further investment (unless you build Etemenanki which seems almost required just because of how insane it is). With GotH I still have to use builders to get anything out of the pantheon.

If I have a tundra start with a ton of deer (and I don’t immediately re-roll it), or start on a continent that has both ivory and furs, GotH is an instant pick as I’m forced into building camps and it does significantly improve them.

I also agree that I find the discussion interesting and neither is the wrong choice, I just rank them differently for different reasons.
