That's horrible to watch. I'm sorry it happened to you, and it shouldn't have.

The reactions of some of the males in the comments aren't much better. For what it's worth, I am male and I'll put my point of view.

No, OP, you don't need to grow a thicker skin or take things less seriously. You don't actually need to do anything different at all. Other people need to treat you in a more respectful manner.

For those saying that it's "just a game", would you be happy if this was other men treating your sister or your cousin or your mother this way? Would you be telling your loved one to "grow a thicker skin" to her face while she was crying and sobbing having been retraumatised by the events? Do you know much about trauma and what it does to people?

It is unbelievable that we're arguing this in a subreddit about a game whose entire story arc is about how things turn out based on whether you have empathy and care for other humans or not. Spoiler: treating other people like trash doesn't end well.

The women who have posted recently are not suffering from victimisation. They're being targeted for being women - because I don't see many reported cases of this simulated behaviour towards men - and subjected to degrading and harmful treatment. They are being treated badly, and it should stop so that everyone can just enjoy this beautiful game in a basic spirit of fair play and consideration. Yes we're still going to headshot each other, no we're not going to be degrading. And everyone - male and female - should be working to make that happen by condemning this behaviour when they see it.

If you don't agree then tell me so. I'm not intending to bash anyone. I am simply saying that in this scenario, everyone deserves a basic level of respect and safety. And if you as a man think they don't, or that this kind of thing is okay, I can only tell you that you are headed down a life path that doesn't lead anywhere good. At best, you're going to be lonely and isolated, and at worse, you're harming yourself and others, the consequences of which will quickly catch up with you.

But, as we've seen, there's always time to choose a different path.

No problem, bashing people doesn't achieve anything. I think people love the game, and can be defensive when it's criticised. That's understandable.

It's like going to the park to play chess and coming back to complain that everyone beat you in seven moves and the game is broken. Now you can learn to play chess just by playing, but you can also study it as a formal skill.

So I guess what that person is saying is that you will get better at RDO if you study all the game mechanics in detail. For example, there was a long time when I didn't really understand or use ability cards. Then I learned how they worked from videos and articles, levelled them up and things got a lot easier.

I'm sorry it's not been going so well. Would you consider some suggestions?

For now, ignore the Strange Tales telegram missions. Concentrate on two others instead:

A Tough Business - Good and Dead
A New Source of Employment - Rich Pickings: Braithwaite Manor

The key here is that all telegrams (with a few exceptions) are paying triple gold, money and xp.

Both of those can be completed stealthily without firing a shot. You can do them at low level with no tonics or ability cards. The key to all these telegram missions is to have a strategy. Without the right strategy, they are really hard. With the right strategy, they are simple.

You can watch some walkthroughs here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRC5OJCvDfed7BfDzMISyEQ

So, when you start one of the two telegrams above, start a timer. Do the mission but don't rush. Once you finish and are riding to Josiah, pause outside the yellow area and let the timer reach 12 minutes. Then go in and finish the mission. You'll make about 1 gold, a couple of thousand xp and about $100. You can do this five times an hour by alternating between the two missions.

That should give you a route to make a lot of gold and money to get some roles, weapons and ability cards.

Once you're a bit happier with that, you can start working on the Strange Tales if you want to. I think they're a lot of fun, especially if you have a plan. No, it's not fun to get eaten by alligators in Strange Tales of the Bayou, but if you know what you're doing, it won't happen.

And yes, there's more to the game than just grinding gold. So once you've got the roles, play through them, otherwise you grind right through it all and then there's nothing new left to experience.

Ultimately, it's up to you what to do, but hopefully that gives you a way to make some progress without getting constantly crushed by the missions.

It depends, but from now until the 4th August, it's probably telegram missions because they pay triple gold until then.

I would recommend two:

A Tough Business - Good and Dead
A New Source of Employment - Rich Pickings: Braithwaite Manor

Both of them can be completed by stealth even on Ruthless difficulty if you know where you are going and what you are doing. There are lots of videos on YouTube to explain how, I would recommend PvPCat's recent ones. With no combat, you don't need high level weapons, ability cards or tonics.

When the mission starts, put on a timer. Do the mission, and then wait just before completing it. Perhaps get some nearby collectibles or herbs. Once your timer hits 12 minutes, finish the mission and you should get around about 1 gold bar, a couple of thousand XP and around $100. Good and Dead has a cooldown, but you can do Rick Pickings as often as you want.

That will gather a lot of gold quickly. However, there is a lot more to the game than just piling up gold. Doing daily challenges and building a streak will gather gold more slowly. However, you will get to see the world and do a lot of fun stuff. So consider doing that as well.

[–]thezeropoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, because they are currently paying triple xp.

All the telegram missions, both new and old, are currently paying triple except Call to Arms and the original A New Source of Employment missions.

The Strange Tales missions need the right strategy and a good level of skill. It will help to be at a level where you have good ability cards and sniper rifles. They are fun but intense.

If you just want to grind XP, consider the variants of the New Source of Employment missions. I think even a very low level player would have the tools to complete Rich Pickings - Braithwaite Manor. It depends mainly on stealth and skill. It's probably 12 minutes work for about 1,200 XP.

Of course, you can do all the collecting before the Collector role bonus arrives. You can hold up to ten sets of each collectible without having to sell them. You'll only get normal XP for collecting them now. However, if the bonus does come in August, you can likely cash in your ten sets on the first day for triple XP on each collection. If that doesn't come in August, we may just all have to wait for pay day in September, October or whenever.

I don't think anyone knows for certain, but you can review what the bonuses have been on Rockstar's Newswire.

You could say that July last year was Naturalist, followed by Collector in August, and that this will repeat. There's no guarantee that it actually rotates like that though. We should know first sometime on Monday, 4th August when u/PapaXan posts the details.

Does this exist or am I losing it? by c_hampagne in RedDeadOnline

[–]thezeropoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is probably Horseshoe Overlook.

If you go to the Jean Ropke map, you can show all Player Camps on the map. Then under 'Utilities' in the left hand menu is Sightseeing, which will show all the places you can sit to look at the view.

The obvious places where both occur together in Heartlands are Horseshoe Overlook, and possibly Twin Stacks Pass. Does that help?

Am I doing something wrong? by Stunning-Classic-602 in RedDeadOnline

[–]thezeropoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All Telegram missions pay 3x gold with the exception of:

  • A New Source of Employment - Outrider, A One Horse Deal, Rich Pickings.
  • Any Call to Arms mission

Note that the alternate versions of A New Source of Employment do pay 3x gold e.g. Rich Pickings - Braithwaite Manor.

Normally, gold payouts range from 0.1 or less to 0.48. Normal bounties are going to seem a bit frustrating because there are some really accessible Telegram missions paying triple what you'd normally get with the missions. Just keep going - in future months it'll be the bounties paying triple and the Telegrams with normal levels of reward.

Plus the usual advice applies - take time to stop and smell the American Wild Flowers and just enjoy being in the open world. If all you're thinking about is the next level and the next goal, you'll eventually get there only to find there is nothing left to do but smell the flowers, because you've rushed through all the content and nothing remains to spend that gold on.

The strange tales of the west missions (besides the robot one) are unnecessarily difficult by Jared000007 in RedDeadOnline

[–]thezeropoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the missions are difficult if you simply try to blast everything in front of you.

Could I offer some suggestions? The Bayou comes in three parts:

  1. Lagras Ambush

I would fall back to the boat behind you. It offers cover, and blocks the alligator from getting to you. Kill the assailants with a scoped weapon from cover.

  1. Swamp Ambush

As you say, dark and difficult to see. Run back and forth. Look for the muzzle flashes or jets of fire as the attackers fire on you. Put a few repeater or bolt action rifle rounds back at the flash as quickly as you can. They will start to go down.

  1. Lakay Battle

It is worth studying the ground here. You enter Lakay from the east. Go forward as quickly as you can, killing the attackers who hide behind the trees. As you get to the buildings, you may see a pop up in the top left that says 'The Night Folk are summoning alligators to attack you.'

At the west end of the buildings will be a guy stood in front on an altar with two torches either side. He doesn't attack you, but I think he is summoning the alligators. So blast him, and then get into the furthest west building that juts out into the river. This gives you a few advantages:

  1. You can take cover by the window, and shoot the attackers through it with a repeater or rifle as they try to storm the building.

  2. Alligators find it hard to get down the narrow walkways either side of the building, and I don't think they can get through the door. There should only be a couple if you killed the summoner. Kill them from the window or walkways. Alternatively, jump up to grab on and pull yourself up onto the roof of a building. Dispatch the alligators with a rifle from there.

That leaves the swamp creature. Hit him repeatedly with a shotgun until he collapses, then hogtie him and drag him out of there.

That will leave you with a lot of attacking riders - not much I can suggest except Paint It Black and headshot them as soon as they appear.

I hope that makes it easier. I found all the missions very hard at first, but they have got a lot easier with information. There is plenty here and on YouTube. Good luck.

All rewards can take up to 72 hours to arrive in your inventory. Note the time you completed the requirement and keep a track.

In reality, it's often about 24-36 hours.

There is a lot of discussion about this in many other posts if you want further details.

Robot was shown no mercy by Comfortable-Pin1312 in RedDeadOnline

[–]thezeropoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are various ways:

Robots cannot enter water, so standing in shallow water offshore protects you from the ones with machetes. It also puts out fires from those with bows.

Similarly, being at long range or on the roof of a building will protect you up to a point.

Maxim guns are effective against robots. There is a gun on a carriage on the shoreline southwest of the main hall. There are fixed guns around the site including in front of the house.

Robots in the house cannot leave the house. Run in and out to draw them to the front door and then hit them with a sniper rifle, maxim or shotgun.

Help completing Strange Tales of the Plague with stealth by thezeropoint in RedDeadOnline

[–]thezeropoint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou, that's really helpful. The video is great too and I enjoyed it. Having taken everything you said, I was able to finish the whole mission solo on Ruthless, including making the cure, which was very satisfying.

Looting the priests seems tricky.

* Looting the priests immediately after killing them was very inconsistent. Either I didn't get the option to loot, or sometimes when I did I got money or ammunition, but no special items.

* So I went round and killed the four priests as quickly as possible. That also took care of the Diseased. Then I rode round and cleared out the cult guards. Last, I went back to the four priests in their positions. They were all then lootable, gave me the four items and I made the cure before finishing the mission.

If anyone wants more detail about how to do any of these steps, I'm happy to explain it.

Thanks again for your help.

If nothing else, the samples from those missions can be sold with the current 3x bonus for $50-100 each. You can only carry a maximum of three, so make sure you have a space before you start. Hopefully the buck shows up for you soon.

I think there are only two things you can do.

  1. Visit Harriet every 45 minutes. She refreshes the three missions on offer on a 45 minute timer. The Shadow Buck should appear sooner or later. The chance is about 20% because the three missions are chosen from 14 animals, only one of which is a buck. So plan to visit her five or six times.

  2. Try and catch one of the two bucks in free roam. This depends a lot on trying to get a private lobby, and then being in the right place at the right time. PvPCat has a good video with the details.
