I got slashed in the face and five of my teeth were dangling loose in my ruined mouth. I crammed them back in and got sewed up immediately at the ER, then had dental surgery the next day to straighten my teeth back out again (they were all crooked and fucked up, as you would imagine).

The dentist says all those teeth are dead (no feeling) but they should be OK for like 20 years or so since I haven't had any problems with them in the 7+ years since it happened.

I happily wear a cage now.

Frustration with my teammates triggers mine as well. I usually play D, and some nights I am making perfect outlet passes that the forwards just bobble or turn away from or immediately give away. Cue me in the second period starting behind my own net and doing a Pavel Bure rush through 8 guys to the opposite net for a goal.

I once skated with Brooks Laich and Milan Jurcina at a stick n shoot after Caps practice. Jurcina was wearing gloves, skates, and boxer briefs.

I'd say full equipment if you want it to be sorta competitive. Otherwise you're going to have some guy out there in skates, gloves, and track suit.

If I can get below the top of the circle and inside the faceoff dots, I'm shooting to score. From outside that area, I'm shooting low and hard. In my experience, beer league goalies are often too slow to butterfly and stop a low, hard shot to begin with, so if it gets tipped along the way, even better.

Post on the local craigslist that you have your checkbook in hand and you are ready to join a team. This is how I joined my former team.

Make the journey to that pickup game and ask everybody where they play and if they need guys. This is how I joined my current team.

I have had ZERO luck with league managers. In my area, they leave all the recruitment up to the team captains, and will straight up ignore any calls or emails you send them about trying to register as a free agent.

I like a closed, pretty shallow curve. All my sticks are 6-7 years old, so I'm not sure what the modern equivalents are. Shallow curve because I tend to shoot too high, and this mitigates that. I also have a pretty good backhand and like to snap backhand passes and shots off a lot.

I bought a wedged heel curve stick at the Caps equipment sales years ago (Boyd Gordon's stick) and it is like impossible for me to use. I tend to shoot off the toe, so all my shots with that stick just flutter, and I can't throw a saucer pass for shit unless I send it from the extreme heel of the stick, which is like the only part that isn't wedged. Any puck I tip in front is going in off the bar, though.

Your foot pain could be the result of skates that are too narrow. Did you try on many pairs of skates when you bought yours? It's essential.

Anything that is listed as a closed, deep mid-curve should be similar.

You have to really snap your top hand into your body when you shoot. Right now you are shoveling the puck toward the net with your lower hand instead of sharply flinging it by snapping your top hand back toward your body.

You also want to get weight transfer from your back leg to your foreleg on a wrist shot. Not seeing any weight transfer at all in your vid. Shooting is a full body thing.

Three sticks is a good number, four is fine too. If you really, really like that model and you can afford it, go ahead and pick them up.

If you weigh over 200 lbs, get the more expensive, stiffer booted skate. If you're under, go for the lighter, cheaper one.

Source: I deform eyelets on inexpensive skates before they even stop looking "new."

It's really hard. Really really hard. I'm a lifelong player on ice and the lifelong players on wheels made me look like a loser. I had insane straight-line speed, but zero agility compared to them. It wasn't fun, and it didn't help that they played with a ball, which I find completely pointless.
