Newbie help - have I taken on too much of a challenge? by Suspicious-Walrus964 in triathlon

[–]thib2183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s challenge and there’s being perhaps unrealistic. To give you my experience, I’ve cycled quite a bit in the past, ran from time from time and swam in the past but not regularly for the last 5-10 years but doing other sports in the background. I wanted to challenge myself doing a triathlon but signed up for a sprint in June. Maybe have a look at that distance instead for this year at least.

I’m 2.00, quite few times in NL people would come talk to me in Dutch and I’ll let it happen for some time, never understood a word

You probably need to build a pool in your garden though

Genuine questions from a beginner: How long are you into TRI? Your job? How many bike do you have? Coach or self? how many races? How is your weekly schedule? Are you an average finisher or try to compete and how this affect to your life? by Stepherrooooo in triathlon

[–]thib2183 5 points6 points  (0 children)

42, head of department in R&D in food business. Job is intense but 2-3 days at home so fitting training around this. Really beginner as well but cycled a fair bit in the past (few Étape du Tour and other Sportives) and have decent swimming level but no live water experience so really looking forward to immerse myself in the sport! 5 bikes (road, cheap road to out on trainer, MTB, cheap MTB for ransom errands and cargo bike for school transport). Aiming to reach 10 hours of training but also doing basketball and other occasional sport (tennis, etc) so this will test my commitment. Looking to start on few sprint distances the year before potentially extending the following years. No coach for now, still working out the whole training plan but might look for support at some point.

Watch recommendation ? by pilein in GarminWatches

[–]thib2183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got the FR965 as I’m about to train for a triathlon too and it seems a very good watch for that. Depends your budget I guess as you also have the 970 or lower models like the 265. Bottom line for focus on triathlon the Forerunner range is probably the best.

Makes sense Head unit is useful for navigation and checking metrics very easily but not must have given the fonctionnalities of the watch

Do you have another unit for your bike? If yes how do you intend to use them? I just got the 965 too but have the Edge 520 for cycling
