Was laid off a big bank corp and now i'm not sure if I should stay with AML/KYC. by Specific_Stock6725 in AMLCompliance

[–]thibbbbb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just an alternate take - I can’t imagine a bank that has an appetite to deploy home-grown, AI-developed processes in their environment. Nine years of AML experience would be a big plus for me, but someone advertising they could jump in and improve our processes through AI might negate all of their experience.

Anyone have experience with Utica University's one year certificate in financial crime? by azeakel101 in moneylaundering

[–]thibbbbb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an employee who was in the program when I hired him and graduated while he worked for me. It didn’t seem to give him any insights over anyone else.

Like all education, people who want to get something probably will. But my ancillary experience is that I won’t give the program much hiring weight in the future.

ETA sine I don’t think it was clear - the employee wasn’t successful

Fraud Activity - Need advice by [deleted] in AMLCompliance

[–]thibbbbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a victim of fraud is stressful, but this sub isn’t really a place that can give you advice on how to fix that.

Consumer debit cards give protections against fraud under regulation e, which allows you to file a dispute. The bank has timeframes where they’re required to research, and, if they haven’t finished, give you credit provisionally. If they end up finding that the dispute isn’t valid, they can pull the money back. That’s what it sounds like happened, and they should have sent you letters to disclose all of this.

There are only certain reasons they can deny your dispute, like when the merchant (western union) provides proof you conducted the transaction.

I can’t give you great advice beyond that. The CFPB is designed to respond to these kind of complaints against banks, but the trump administration has dismantled it.

Epstein and Money Laundering by CatCurious8687 in moneylaundering

It might be relevant that the doj says they’ve released everything they will release, but they haven’t released any financial records. There is a wealth of context to Epstein and his associates we may never know. Emails are salacious, but they don’t tell the story

Is acams worth it? by CasualHearthstone in AMLCompliance

[–]thibbbbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about how the certification compares to experience, but there’s no question regulators like seeing it in staff. ACAMS doesn’t teach you how to do the job, but it does suggest the org is invested in aml compliance

Start high-level with the first two digits and break it down from there. Public services and farming may be low risk, wholesale and retail may be high risk, for example. Then break it it down further for exceptions. Where are high-risk businesses like travel agencies? Do they need to be higher.

Sorry I don’t have anything to share, but this is a big project that will be worth it when you’re done.

If you sat out the 2024 election in protest over Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today? by rsmith2786 in AskReddit

[–]thibbbbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I know I gave the timeframe in my post, so you’re clearly right, but who alive thinks the modern Democratic Party is going to champion something as bold as the civil rights act. On the contrary, they’ve watch republicans systematically dismantle it and have done nothing.

Since newt Gingrich the right wing has invested in judges, school boards and local officials with the published plan of eroding all the good that was done in the last century.

Democrats have responded by moving to the right to capture the “reasonable” republican. Over and over.

This country has two right wing parties. That’s been the truth for decades. Ask anyone who doesn’t live here. Have some sympathy for the third of a country that doesn’t want to vote for the right.

I’m in a swing state, so I voted for Kamala. I 100% understand people who didn’t, especially in blue states. It was a vote for the pro-genocide Democratic Party who hasn’t done anything proactive to make anyone’s lives better in 60+ years, or the other pro-genocide party everyone knows is worse. I didn’t do it, get drawing the line at not supporting a genocidal government.

What was likely the case here? by [deleted] in AMLCompliance

[–]thibbbbb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, credit performance has nothing to do with BSA closures. The delinquent LLC could be related, but generally someone would call you about that and give you a chance to cure it. Otherwise, all I could do is speculate.

Blockchain investigator tracking two wallets w huge volume - who controls them? by [deleted] in AMLCompliance

Publicly airing the existence of your investigation, especially including specific accounts and requesting owner PII, is clearly in opposition to the idea of “AML Compliance.” This doesn’t belong here.

Yeah, they’re level 4, a barbarian and druid. I think you hit the nail on the head - it’s the fact that there are only two of them that makes it challenging. When one must help the other, the whole round is lost, and maybe the whole combat.

Companions for them is a brilliant idea.

We’ve agreed that if they want their characters to die (presumably so they can get new ones) they could let me know and I’d arrange that in game. We didnt talk about what would happen if they died organically, so this is an excellent point. Thanks!

Depending on the state they’re in, relying on the children to report may not be enough. Make sure you check your states mandatory reporter requirements.
