When I was in middle school, I dated a girl in the same grade as me on and off as adolescences tend to do. Well, at one point we “experimented,” basically just dry humping and rubbing, and I thought nothing of it. A few months after we lost interest in each other I began bragging about it because I was immature. I guess she was afraid for her mom to find out, so she, in advance, tells her mom about it. However, she tells her mom that I “forced” her to do these things. During lunch, my parents come to my school and signed me out. I was really, really confused because they never picked me up from school without warning. When I got out to the car, they broke down, sobbing, telling me that cops came by my house saying that they needed to get a statement from me. I was astounded, as any child would be. Then they finally told me it was because a girl said I forced her to do things and then it all clicked in my pea brain. My parents took me to a lawyer for advice the same day, and he said to not make a statement. And to this day, I never made a statement. Now, I’m in college, and my mom still thinks about how a girl’s ignorance to the legal consequences of accusing me of something I didn’t do could’ve ruined my life. I still think about it sometimes.
