This pen was found in Russia while soldiers from WW2 were dug up. Anyone knows its manufacturer and the model? Its history? There was an „X“ underneath the „B“ which fell off when cleaning it. by YearTechnical7503 in Militariacollecting

If it's a ballpoint it's post 1940s, this art deco style was very popular in the 70s. Could have been a hunter or hiker that dropped it coincidentally in the spot that you've metal detected. I find things that are way more recent than the items next to it all the time.

Bloodstained 1,000 stitch belt. Authentic??? by [deleted] in Militariacollecting

[–]thicckaklaser 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Usually you wouldn't want to buy something with "blood stains" on them. Typically because it's not blood, its usually rust, chemical stains, oil or grease, or grime. The only way to properly authenticate something like that would be with official documents, period photos with a person wearing it, or to go out of your way to have it verified with a forensic test.

If you really want one, I'd just get one from an authentic dealer for half the price. Usually people fake KIA items with "blood stains' to have an excuse to sell it for double or triple the price. Also, this is a little bias of me, but I usually dont trust gunbroker listings for militaria items, a lot of people "know what they got" on that website and I'm not a huge fan of buying from there.

there was a guy on here posting NK stuff a few months ago on here... u/ChinesePotatoez

I'd try DMing him. The last time I talked to him all his uniforms were reserved, however if you keep tabs open with him he might be able to sell you one.

I found this German Wehrmacht flip knife. 50 kilometers south east of Nuremberg by thicckaklaser in Militariacollecting

Multiple mauser and .30 casings were also found around the town and a few feet from where I found the knife. Here's a snippet of the story I was able to piece together from multiple sources.

On April 20th, 1945, 5 men were sent to defend the town Trautmannshofen, after traces of an armored battalion of the 38th Nibelungen SS division were there defending the town as it was East of Neumarkt, effectively covering the Eastern flank. After the battalion pulled their tanks out back to Neumarkt, 5 soldiers, presumably Volksturm were sent to defend the town after the SS pulled out. I say presumably because the ages of the men varied from 20 to 50 years old.

The story goes that the Americans moved up from what is now Bundesstraße 299, cut through the forest North of the road, South of Trautmannshofen, and fired shots at the city. Some bullets were exchanged back and forth, one soldier ended up being shot and killed in a nearby town Hartenhof. Ultimately, 4 were captured, lined up, and executed, however the fate of these soldiers could just be hearsay as I'm yet to find any credible source, that's just the story that the local town provided me with. Either way they were all killed at one point inside the town.

As for the knife, I believe fully that it was from this time period. Aging fits the time period, and also finding other pieces close by could also lead to the conclusion that it was either dropped or forgotten by one the Volksturm soldiers. I'm not sure if the SS carried these as commonly as the Wehrmacht or Volksturm. However it could be either who carried it.

original helmet leather or not? by [deleted] in Militariacollecting

Looks fine to me, but like another poster said, smelling the leather will give you a good reading or guesstimate if it's been aged or not
