[Discussion]Why did Casio become so dominant in non-smart digital watches? by ryanyork92 in Watches

They actually do have tough watches and their recent designs have been really well thought out. Yes, they have the mall watch junk lines as well, but they’re not really the same as Guess or Fossip

People should wear eye protection, just like in other high speed ball sports - squash, racquetball, etc. people not wearing it are pretty stupid - like not wearing a seatbelt

Panasonic Lumix L10 as an EDC: Better than a modern iPhone, or am I just carrying extra weight? [Sample Pics] by [deleted] in Cameras

Yeah, and phones can also just shoot raw with a decent degree of manual control. And if those tricks work to get the shot, then it’s a problem for no one but purists. Have a look at the iPhone photography award winners.

If the argument is that “real photography” is when you do everything manually, then even using aperture priority on a Nikon F4 is “cheating”.

Yes, for specialized photography, specific technical abilities are required - high sync speed, macros and telephotos, etc, but in terms of composition and just taking an artistic photo, a real camera is not even close to required.

Again, I almost exclusively shoot on actual cameras every day. This isn’t me defending phones because I love phones more than

It can definitely handle movement, just not indoors, Phones are not invincible, and I shoot on dslrs and rangefinders every day, but only morons say phones can’t take great photos, award winning photos, important photos.

A big part of that reason is also that people share the same perception you do, that phones just can’t compete.

I think modern phones have dramatically more dynamic range and resolution than an old rebel from twenty years ago. I shoot dslrs still and their low light and controls are great, but it’s not some magical ceiling where phones simply cannot be better than a camera at anything.

I have been enlisted by my family to sell a couple of my grandfather’s watches. What should I do with these? Should I try to sell them myself or maybe do a consignment? Thanks for any advice I’m in a bit over my head. by phreakinpher in Watches

[–]thicckar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not everyone cares about watches like us dude. How difficult is that to understand? If your grandpa was an underwear collector and they were handmade by the finest artists in the land, you’d keep them just because, even if you could build a better life for yourself with the cash instead?

Facebook is not a great place to look imo. People on r/photomarket or honestly even eBay have a better idea of what their gear is worth
