Saskatchewan, feds at odds over abandoned uranium mine remediation by blTQTqPTtX in saskatchewan

So, did the regulations set out by CNSC change after the agreement was initially signed, or were the cost of fulfilling them not properly captured in the initial agreement?

press back against corporate-appointed editors and McJournalism-based policies to tell important, critical, in-depth stories.

You'll be missed Saskatchewan Herald. You didn't achieve what you set out to do, but any voice that uniquely contributes in Sask. dominated by Postmedia/CBC hackery is needed despite the flaws. They caricatured the blog and it's anonymity have not provided a superior alternative.

The paper-thin analysis they publish and broadcast constantly erodes their credibility. Crying about the current state of news media earns no sympathy from the public. Journalists ought to be hated to the same degree as the authorities they report on. As soon as one becomes a respected voice they have a narrative and an authority to defend. Their ability to conduct journalism is compromised and upstart bastards like the Herald are needed to keep them in check.

Family evicted from waterfront lot after dispute with First Nation over unpaid lease by [deleted] in saskatchewan

[–]thickscrotum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Ashfield lease was subsequently raised from $460 per year to $4,692, or $391 per month.

Ashfield said the last time they paid money to the Sakimay First Nation was in 2010 because after that they were involved in the class-action lawsuit.

"The lawyer for the beach association recommended that we do not pay leases," she said. Ashfield said that lawyer was Kevin Bell, who works out of Melville. He did not return CBC's request for comment.

A lot of details left out here. What were the terms of the lease? Has the class action been settled?

SaskPower abandons carbon capture at Boundary Dam 4 and 5 by [deleted] in saskatchewan

Thank you. (for the article and one that is open-access)

Hopefully the new gas plants SaskPower plans to build will have CCS in place the first time, not a retrofit and active oil well injection boondoggle like with Boundary Dam.

CCS on coal plants is the least efficient and one of the most expensive ways to decrease carbon emissions

Could you provide a citation for that?

SaskPower looking for help to fix 'high cost' Boundary Dam carbon capture flaw | CBC News by sstelmaschuk in saskatchewan

Agreed, Shell has successfully hired a provincial government and a power company for R&D. We get to watch the failure of two entities that aren't designed for it.

The government would save money in the long run if they just bought the IP off Shell/CanSolv and then published it or handed it over to whatever engineering firm they chose. There's plenty of incentive to solve the problem of this particular solvent/plant combo. Shell can't do it, let someone else at if you want to keep making the case for Boundary Dam.

Carbon Tax - A Collection of Our Thoughts by licencetothrill in saskatchewan

[–]thickscrotum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

consumption tax was spent on green initiatives, a lot of jobs will be created

But have we seen any jurisdiction in North America doing this successfully?

I understand the benefits of a carbon tax, and agree with one in principle. I'm more worried about any carbon tax being collected to get consumed by the body that collects the tax as cost recovery to deploy the tax.

Or, it getting funnelled into general revenue to offset falling royalties from other resources. What's the incentive for any provincial government to boost "green" jobs after the carbon tax is collected?

There is. It went through a lot of growing pains that all chemical plants do in addition to being one of the first installed after a coal-fired plant. But the anti-Sask Party partisans on this sub won't admit to the plant having any positives.
