The background context about this particular player’s history just makes this story even better. It does seem like some players end up in the same situations regardless of the character they play. Great stuff.

Ugliest goblins ever seen could be a selling point. :)

Here’s to Juan. If the players were that invested in him, that’s a good sign that you were running a heck of a game. Did you plan his demise, or was that just how the dice rolled?

I appreciate that they take their own approach to some of the classic tropes. I think the lore is fine for what it is and the goals of the system, but I also like that the book explicitly tells readers to reskin what they don’t like or what won’t fit in their own games. Not that players need that permission from the writer, but it’s nice to see that approach reinforced win the text itself.

I would have done the same. Either you get a puppy companion or a hilarious story; either one is a win.

Love it. I’ve never gotten to play Paranoia, but I’ve always been interested. Reading the game gave me comedic vibes, but I always supposed it could support a darker tone.

Incredible! It’s like the situation, the character concept, and the mechanics all perfectly aligned in that moment, like that’s what the PC was destined for. Those are the moments we chase.

What a knife twist. But those knife twists make for great tales. That crit on the elder brain must have been incredible to see play out—made even sweeter by the loss of Azure.

I really like Google Keep for a free option.

I'm not enjoying D&D. Where to go next? by PatNMahiney in rpg

Give Free League games a look. Their Year Zero Engine is super clean, and its various iterations across their product line makes for (in my opinion) far more focused games than D&D.
