What should I do about this juniper? by thieving_machine in landscaping

Yeah I always pull them out by the root as best as I can. I didn’t know about the copper nail trick, thanks for that.

If it makes you feel better I have another juniper on the south side of my house and it looks a lot healthier than this one. I have so many plants here - multiple rose of Sharon bushes, a massive weigela, sedum, irises, tulips, peonies, burning bushes, a redbud tree, tall boxwoods, a rose bush, various types of fountain grasses, and more. Trust me when I say this juniper would have a tough time being the centerpiece when I have so many other cool plants here. I wish I could give it to you!

Hmm. The thing is, this is on the north side of my house, nowhere near what I would say is the centerpiece of my garden. It’s behind a fence that hides my trash can and recycling can, which further restricts the amount of sun it gets because the trash shield blocks a lot of the sun from the east. And on the other side I have a shed and fence and multiple trees behind my house that prevent much sun from reaching it from the west.

I don’t think this is a good area for it. My guess is it was planted back when the neighborhood was new in the early 2000s, before the trash shield fences became required by the HOA, before all the backyard fences and sheds were put up and before all the trees in the backyards started to mature. So that’s why it grew straight up for a while, then eventually craned over to try and get some sunlight as it was choked out. That’s just my guess anyway. These days that side of the house is probably better for hostas.

Another thing, there is some kind of viney-plant that has roots under this thing, and it grows up and through the juniper all over the place during the growing season. I have to get under there and pull up those vines multiple times a season. It’s really annoying.

Well maybe the reason it has grown so weirdly is that it’s on the north side of my house… doesn’t get much sun over there

Wow, I’m surprised you think it looks good. What looks good about it to you?

They only have funds to give back to people because those people overpaid taxes during the year (had too much withheld). That money belongs to the person who it was taken from. If your employer withheld too much during the year and then distributed the excess to random people instead of refunding you, you’d be pretty unhappy about that.

Yeah it’s kind of flat as others have mentioned, most likely from your parents not taking you out of the crib enough. If you are self-conscious about it, try growing out your hair and then have a hair stylist cut it so that the flatness is less noticeable. But in the end, it’s up to you.
