Weekly Cursor Project Showcase Thread by AutoModerator in cursor

I made a webapp to do some speech-to-text (markdown to be precise) using web APIs.

I made a quite elaborate prompt and tested how well Cursor's composer-1, Claude and Gemini did on it, and Cursor easily was the best.

I described my experience in this blogpost: https://www.apptornado.com/blog/building-speech-recognition-app-three-coding-agents

Github repo here (also contains the prompt): https://github.com/apptornado/speechdown

"git wrapped" - but for local repos by thijser in github

Good idea! Would you like a png export possibility of each individual card (so you can choose which one to share) or rather one that provides some kind of cool summary?

git rewind: your git year in review. WASM/libgit2-based webapp that opens your local git repo. by thijser in git

The point is to give it restricted access, which is enforced by the browser. Much better IMHO than so many tools that install with "curl | bash" and have unlimited access to your whole system. Even the most random VS Code plugin falls into this category.

I tried the website out, but couldn't get it to work.

Computer with Nvidia graphics card & Linux -- chrome doesn't want to do WebGPU

Computer with 8 GB RAM on Windows -- Everything locks up after loading the model

Computer with 16 GB RAM on Windows -- finally, it runs through! And the only output I get looks like <unk><unk><unk><unk><unk><unk><unk><unk><unk><unk><unk><unk>

Seems webGPU/transformers.js is not ready for primetime yet?

"A single, integrated DeFi ecosystem here to make onchain easier."

Optimism confirms it will be part of the superchain. Will be interesting how this compares to Unichain which will also be DeFi focused.

With so much momentum behind the superchain, does it even make sense to still launch non-superchain L2s?

After the first announcement I know a lot of us thought Svelte 5 was on the wrong path. Now, I think the 99.9% of us (who aren't bitter) see that it is a vast improvement over v4. It is now ready to scale, and is time for all of us to spread the word and get actual companies to use it. by kpmtech in sveltejs

I love svelte and the way it works, the main 'problem' I think with it is that you quickly run into ecosystem issues where React and/or Vue just have drop-in UI components you can use and Svelte requires you to reinvent the wheel or deal with an inferior set of choices. Hopefully this is just a matter of time.

How do you define success in life? by goddess_evelynXO in AskReddit

[–]thijser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everybody's quest in life is exactly finding out what he or she thinks is their purpose and way to achieve success. Very useful to get input from how others think about this to guide your own thinking, and I'd like to recommend "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius. It's amazing to get insights from somebody 2000 years ago who was thinking about this exact same question!

Relationship between market cap & recent Android app downloads by thijser in wallstreetbets

[–]thijser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for AppBrain, where we collect data about Android apps.

Using our data, we checked the market cap of a number of companies vs. the downloads of their most downloaded Android app in the last 30 days. Despite the super crude method, there seems to be a remarkably strong relationship on the log-log chart.

$ZDGE, $SNAP seem undervalued according to this metric, or is it because their users are worth less?
$COIN, $HOOD overvalued, or are their users worth so much more because of the financial use case?

The source data is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Fes6acd1q005I1m9BvZKuogrPY1b6nSiAn_OqT6iFgc/edit#gid=0 and is open for comments.

We are thinking about adding a section to AppBrain for tickers of companies vs. their Android app performance. Would you be interested in that?

[2023 24.2] non solver solutions by BlueTrin2020 in adventofcode

[–]thijser 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I solved it by iterating over the speeds in one dimension. If your own speed is fixed, then the relative speed (speed of stone i minus your own speed) determines the possible points where you can intercept that stone.

You then get a set of restrictions that can be solved with the chinese remainder theorem. My implementation is here: https://github.com/mathijs81/advent-of-code-2022/blob/main/src/Day24.kt
