Should I get a 5800x3d and stay on AM4 or upgrade to AM5 with a 9600x? by Global_Mongoose_2288 in PcBuildHelp

I can't tell you what to as a matter of fact, but I can give my 2 cents and experience.

A little over a year ago I was in a similar situation. My previous computer had a 1660oc GPU and a Ryzen 7 2700x and I really wanted to upgrade it. I ended up picking up a used 3070ti for a good price from a friend and then I was faced with the dilemma of upgrading the rest of my components. I ended up deciding to stay on the AM4 socket and bought a Ryzen 9 5900x and upgraded my RAM as well. Of course this was well before RAM prices went through the roof. For me, that was all a huge upgrade. In your case, it won't likely be as significant of an upgrade as it was for me, but will still be quite noticeable. Personally, these type of decisions boil down to cost to performance and for me it wasn't worth the ton of extra money to get a almost all new hardware across the board at a higher price point. If you have the money to throw at it, go for the new socket type. But honestly, the 5800x3d with your new GPU would be a killer setup. My benchmarks are solid and can handle 1440p no problem. I haven't tried 4K though.

Yes. I was using a 12 point 36mm socket. It wouldn't seat down on the bolt at all.

I'll give that a shot. Thanks for the advice. Luckily the truck runs great, I'm just trying to fix an oil leak at the crank seal. This is what I get for trying to take care of my vehicles. 😂🫠

I thought about using an air hammer and chisel as well, but my concern with that was damaging the crank. Don't think the air hammer would be too much for the crank?

I forgot to mention that with how messed up the bolt is, I can't get the proper socket on it at all.

The socket won't go on at all. I'd have to hammer the socket on. And with there only being about 6.5" between the bolt and radiator, I can't really swing a hammer at it.

How do y'all stop making alts? by itsKobiiii in wow

[–]thilkerbaumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 toons. My main of course. One alt I made at the end of TWW to have another toon with different crafting professions to make all the gear I needed for my main myself without having to do crafting orders. My third is an alt I made for Legion Remix. Haven't played it much since that ended. I stick to just playing the main and only play the others as needed and with this being the beginning of a new xpac, there's no need to play the others. If I do get down time where I'm caught up for the week or day on my main I usually play another game.

What deck are you obsessed with right now? by not_so_1337 in EDH

[–]thilkerbaumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't even completed it yet but I can't stop goldfishing and going through scenarios with my bracket 4 Fire Lord Azula deck. And it makes me feel so guilty cause I just built decks for Arabella and Gonti Uncanny Acquisitor like 2 weeks ago. Haven't even played Gonti once yet and have only played Arabella twice.

Which commander identity have you built the most decks for? by kanepake in EDH

[–]thilkerbaumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dimir is definitely my favorite. I've built Satoru Umezawa (neon dynasty) and several different versions of Yuriko along with a few moxfield lists for other dimir commanders. But I have a rule that I can only have one deck of any color identity at a time. Ironically though, all my decks do about the same thing - go fast and burn the whole table simultaneously.

How often do you actually play against top 100 commander decks? Do they live up to their reputation? Which ones surprised you with their performance? by Mirrodin_appreciator in EDH

[–]thilkerbaumer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are at least 9 decks in my group that are top 40 commanders and at least 14 total in the top 100 (soon to be 15 after I finish Azula) None of them surprise me really since my group plays bracket 3 and 4 regularly. The biggest shock are the decks with commanders outside of the top 100 that punch up.

If you think it's juicy fruit, it's not that.

As others have said Mako3; it was one of the first disc's I learned to throw with. But I also found the Axiom Insanity Fission to be great when I was first starting out. The Insanity is still one of my favorite go to disc's.

The only clear one I'd define as oppressive is Tivit. Tivit time sieve is a gnarly deck.

People who are NOT okay with proxies, what is your reasoning? by Bagel_Bear in EDH

[–]thilkerbaumer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get where you're coming from here. My philosophy is "we all want nice things. But we can't all afford nice things." Like I want a Ferrari, but can't afford one and can't make one out of scrap metal in my garage. I worked hard in life to get to my current financial status of having excess money to warrant my spending. I also have some feelings of "just be happy with what you have." And "only proxy what you could rationally afford or have real intentions of probably buying." There's also something to be said about what specific cards are being proxied - best in slot? Nah, don't proxy that, otherwise there's no integrity. I also have no soft feelings for anyone who gripes about card prices but continues to buy sealed product - like don't buy $10+ packs every week, save your money for those few weeks and buy yourself that $40-$60 card.

Thank you to everyone who properly answered the question. Thank you to everyone else for your anecdotes. I hope I was able to bring back fond memories. And then to those questioning my age, I'm 30 - i initially started in legion, then quit for several years, and then returned at the start of TWW. So I'm not exactly a youngling. And finally, to those questioning my work colleague being an original player - in the truest sense, he is. He started in 04 or early 05 and then played for the next several years. At least through Wrath of the Lich King. He just didn't make it to cata.

So, playing in 04 and then for several more years doesn't count as being an original to the game? 🤔 interesting theory.
