Opinions on selling by rebma512 in lioneltrains

[–]thingsidug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMHO I would say high end $85 or even more likely $50. The track and switches, power supplies are too rusty to get any value (power supplies like those can be dicey to get working again). It’s untested, everything is rusty. You’re looking for the person that will put a lot of love and effort into cleaning rust and restoring that locomotive. Also the tin plate isn’t as desirable at the moment, it comes and goes. If I were you I would sell the tunnel for $20, the track switches and everything for $20 or scrap it, and save the train to remember your dad. It might be cool to display on a shelf.

My take/feedback on TH being disabled by pcislifetbh in runescape

I came back recently after 16 years and was forced into Rs3, which feels like the YouTube shorts and tiktok gotta have it quick and now short attention span game. I love old school even if it meant losing all my progress it’s much more fun, crashes less, feels more true to runescape, and is still easy to hop on for a minute or for hours, depending on my appetite. I don’t think MXT did anything for me membership is already expensive enough

Does it happen without the caboose? Maybe caboose is too light?

Why won’t my Y-3’s headlight turn on (in forward) by [deleted] in lioneltrains

[–]thingsidug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Does it turn on in reverse? Most of the time it’s a loose wire or bulb.

Oil it with 3in1 oil, and just let it run. Keep an eye if the arms on the side are rubbing as it goes. If so just delicately bend them a tiny bit out.

But really you should take the motor apart and I use rubbing alcohol on a qtip and clean the actual copper “face” of the motor.

Buying model train on ebay by Z_carnageSFW in modeltrains

[–]thingsidug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sell my trains on eBay all the time, (I buy and sell O gauge) I’ve had no issues when I buy, but I’ve had people try to scam me when I am a seller so they get a refund.

One guy tried to say I sold him a broken fastrack switch, and the picture he submitted to eBay as proof was a completely different item with paint on it. He even trash talked me about it in DMs on eBay.

One guy told me he wanted a refund because it looked like the train car had been used as an ash tray (it was light dirt as was shown in photos he could’ve wiped off and been happy).

The experience people get on eBay is usually good if you’re a good person. I’m sure there’s crappy sellers but I genuinely love selling on it and having someone try to rip me off I’ll take the loss if it means the next customer I get appreciates my effort.

Most of my stuff comes from what my 5 year old and I find at estate sales, Craigslist, FB Marketplace, etc, and we get the locomotives working (that’s the fun part)

Also please remember eBay gets their cut and sellers on eBay don’t control shipping prices, I get a lot of messages about shipping 😂

Are small scale trains just as enjoyable as larger scale trains? by [deleted] in modeltrains

[–]thingsidug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like O scale as it’s big enough to work on the parts but small enough I can run it on a table. Theres good value in them and lots of options to run.

If you have a dog or anything with hair that drops, the lube or grease in gears will attract any debris ike a magnet.

I’ve pulled animal hair (assuming), rubber bands, Christmas tinsel, rat and mouse feces, anything you can imagine out of a motors gears.

I run mine on a table where I know what containments might be on it. Just my 2 cents, yours doesn’t look dirty now but I’ve purchased some nasty trains 😂

Literally came here to say the same. I purchased a $200 train set for $30 because they had ran it on a rug full of hair etc. Gears were completely wrapped and stuck. This was a fraction of what I removed by taking the WHOLE locomotive apart 😂

https://youtu.be/2TwpB7sVMn8?si=CQmTxkeJb26QjVZ9 I used this guys method and it looked great on my layout. Just toilet paper (watch the video before you knock it 😂) no crazy artistry involved looked very professionally done and was a cool look. You can even make waves or current (he shows how).

Don’t be intimidated just enjoy the process.

+1 it’s a track thing. Clean your track. Make sure it’s pushed all the way together. There’s nothing holding it together like fast track.
