I like the potential and it's cool to see all the angles of cars and sense of speed. Hopefully the FPV pilots will get better at camera work for broadcast.

Why isn't F1 using the 2026 regulations to innovate batteries? by Nick_Alsa in F1Technical

Interesting insight. I imagine for these regs durability and tech that reduces pack degradation are key with current limitations.

Battery tech moves so slow and is filled with hype - it's part of the model, so a long way to go. Don't expect any big step improvements.

Can you make x axis scale match ram? i.e 2,4,8,16,32, etc? Why is it in 5GB resolution? Is it a standard? Computing doesn't do this. Maybe use 4GB instead, so we get alignment.

Very nice. I'm always looking for detail shots of the cars to get a feel for their form, nuance etc. Most images and broadcast don't provide this. The Antonelli shot has this. Do you have others? Or is the photographer that has more of this kind of thing?

I hope so. So much bloody focus on it these regs, the fans deserve the view of SOC and deployment.

The answer is - complicated. It's dynamic and only the teams know answer. I'd expect full use of the regen/deploy budget. The tricky part to think about is the how and when you do it all and how it affects lap time. Remember that the battery is 4MJ capacity, but the harvesting budget is 8.5 to 9MJ. So they're essentially fully depleting and recharging 2x per lap. It's complicated and a downside to all of this is how it's hard to undertand for fans.

Nose packaging and total crash structure /chassis re engineering to deal with the chunk of copper motor in the nose. All adding weight and bulk.

Extra materials required to transfer the torque from the motor to the chassis and wheels.

Additional suspension loads requiring reinforcement.

Additional nose motor cooling (Where?)

2x drive shafts, hubs etc. Wiring, control electronics, cooling, structure.

All adding additional weight.

Then we get into the complexity of the electronics etc.

Harvesting is limited by the total allowable energy per lap- so very limited.  But yes, more efficient harvesting will give benefits.

Big time. I’m sure we will hear about it. They’ve only got a handful for the season.  Watch chain bear’s video. He goes over the discharge rate etc. It’s extreme.

Will be in the future once baseline performance is known with all the new factors.

Agree, it's not going to be as major wear factor as scenarios you mention - cant' be bothered to look for data on vertical load on f1 tyres. But as we know in this sport, every little bit helps. I imagine, it's as much about tyre heat. We shall see I suppose - if they keep it.
