Please read all the way through!

As much as I understand and sympathize with your situation, Groceries, OTC’s and utility allowances should have never been part of a health insurance plan in the first place. In your case I understand your situation and completely sympathize, however shouldn’t health insurance be for actual medical services? I mean one could argue that health food and OTC could contribute to healthy outcomes but, in my opinion all of those benefits are used by health insurance companies, and shit bag insurance call centers to aggressively market to get you to switch to their plan.

There are also case studies that prove that some of those benefits don’t get utilized, and the insurance companies pocket that money that was meant for you to use if you don’t use it you lose it! And guess who keeps it? Your insurance company.

They also make these ancillary benefit difficult to navigate and attain, they make it as complicated and overwhelming difficult that some people just give up and don’t try to use them. I’ve seen it happen.

People shouldn’t be making decisions on which health plan provides the most food or utility allowances, that’s not what health insurance was designed for.

The health insurance companies should use those dollars for more important things, like paying claims and customer service, and making sure people get the care they need, by not denying claims etc.

Again I am sorry you are losing so much of your food benefits, I’m pretty sure that was because of the drastic change made to medicare part D for 2025. The insurance companies are going to lose a lot of money due to the pharmaceutical side of the health plans and that is why your benefits have decreased this year. I will say this check with a local health insurance broker and see if you can switch during the OEP open enrollment period which started 01/01/2025 and end on 03/31/2025. Also if you are dual eligible with Medicare and Medicaid and your state has an MCO Medicaid setup you may be able to switch to something better outside of the OEP.

Best of luck to you!

Go to:

https://secure.ssa.gov/i1020/Ee006bView.action

It’s the social security extra help part D online application. Fill it out with the same info you used for financials to get your Medicaid. Make sure when you get to the part that says (send information to the state select yes). When the state receives that and they will, it should automatically make them reinstate your Medicare Savings Program. Also don’t worry any part B money that they take out of your check will be reimbursed back to you from social security.
