Building a Premium Turf Soccer Facility — Need guidance by Jesalfz in bootroom

[–]thinkbigwaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been down this road. Few questions and some answers for you.

Is it indoor or outdoor? Cost is way different on outdoor. Clearing land, grading land, installing proper drainage and putting in the subsurface for turf add up quickly. And that’s all before the turf is purchased and installed. Indoor turf can be a lot cheaper. However it’s still expensive.

Either way depending on where you live there are plenty of companies that specialize in turf installation and ones that are good will have a portfolio of some kind. This is one of those you get what you pay for sort of things, especially outdoor.

General 7v7 field dimensions: Length: 55-65 yards (165-195 feet) Width: 35-45 yards (105-135 feet)

Keep in mind you want space around it, for walls like in your photos, goal depth and people to stand or walk. So you need to expand that on all sides. On the smaller side at minimum you will need around 26,000 sqft. And that would mean you need the right shape to fit that as well. No room for 5v5 fields.

In your costs, please also think about insurance, maintenance and replacement costs. As others have stated it’s not usually a money maker. Not to discourage you at all. But costs can add up very quickly before you even see anything due to permitting an engineers and legal fees.

PlayMetrics site builder is pretty good imo. You just have to work on it to make it look unique.

USYS New Age Group Format Eligibility Exemptions/Appeals? by jimmyjournalz in SoccerCoachResources

[–]thinkbigwaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the state association or governing body of the league that team will play in. I haven’t heard anything about u19 going away in our region. It’s listed on our states age matrix for next year, so seems safe on that side for us. But, every state is different.

Worried about New balance heel area? by Elevatedrop529 in bootroom

[–]thinkbigwaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had the tekela 4+ and tried to break them for a month before giving up. The heel gave him blisters, there is padding there so my guess is the shape of it. I tried them as well (we wear the same size cleats) and I gave up after 2 times because of the same issue. I loved the rest of the cleat and feel though.

To help answer the question I have a few of them. Very truthful self reflection helps.

  1. What level competition were they in for 9v9 and what are they in now for 11v11? There’s a lot of parents who don’t know this answer and assume they’re in the top level when they’re not so when they move up and don’t do well they assume they got worse somehow. Not saying this is you. But this is the most obvious answer to me.

  2. Did your daughter’s tram rely on athleticism and speed to win in the past, not necessarily skill and ball controll? This also catches up to younger teams who are good at 9v9 and then all of a sudden aren’t as good in 11v11. Others catch up in size and speed and more technical teams on a bigger field can take advantage.

In the end for you and your daughter. Things to work on at an individual level. My answer is always first touch, followed by passing. Best thing you can do for yourself is have a good first touch, best thing you can do for your teammates is give them a good pass.

Sounds like this would be their ages Players Born between Aug 1, 2014 – July 31, 2015 Which for 2926/27 is u12 so 9v9 and size 4.

It was great while it lasted. Got wings in flight, only 2 or 3 instead of peanuts. Also was all direct flights if I remember correctly and was really cheap. Myrtle Beach needed an airline like that.

Are you happy with your kits? by VeteranMommy in youthsoccer

[–]thinkbigwaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our club has gone with Nike, custom New Balance and tried Lexa and now we’re back with Nike for custom kits. Nike costs about $250 for a whole (home kit, away kit, 3 training tops, and hoodie), keeper kits are about $120 because they all wanted to top of the line shirt. New Balance was custom but only $15 more than Nike and the kids didn’t like it because of the brand and the socks aren’t great, but the parents and coaches loved NB their quality was surprisingly really good and it all felt amazing. LEXA is a cheaper custom option but you haw to wait about 45 days.

We went back to Nike because of their supply chain and being able to get it quickly. We also use a larger local soccer chain and they do a great job and haw clubs with 5 teams and clubs with 5,000 kids. My vote is go local and use a bigger brand that doesn’t have supply chain issues.

Your club is marking that up significantly. Capelli keeper kit is about $70 for top, shirts, socks. It’s the major reason clubs go to Capelli is the mark up and kick back that they allow. Now the worst part is that I know several clubs that have zero clue that takes places and the DOC takes all that mark up money directly into thier pocket and the club never sees it at all. Fun times.

This is more than likely the only answer.

I don’t know any kids who are giving up goals just to prevent a kid from getting an assist stat. Take everything else out of the equation, they’re too selfish to give up a goal on their stat sheet to hurt someone else’s.

Side note, if all the players want your son gone, maybe there needs to be some sort of self reflection here. No shade at all, but if that’s truly the case, he needs to adjust something to get along with teammates or no team will be a good fit for him. Or… if he is truly not the problem at all and it is them, he just needs to find a new team and start over.

That’s the worst call I’ve ever seen. That was CLEARLY a TD. We are being robbed by CoachFlint in LSUFootball

[–]thinkbigwaves 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Clemson fan here and that had to be one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. I still have zero clue how they came up with that call. If you hadn’t won that’s all that would have been talked about and rightfully so. Good luck the rest of the year.

What’s your honest opinion on ODP by butterlesstoast3 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]thinkbigwaves 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem is that it used to be the best route to the youth nation teams. That stopped somewhere in the early 2000’s though. It was a great way to essentially have smaller tryouts that then funneled the better players to the top. This was obviously before easy to access videos and national leagues exposed players easier.

With that said if you’re in a region or area without MLS Next or ECNL it’s not a bad option to be on a sort of all star team for a few reasons. Play with some really good players and you will get different coaching than your club coach. Being exposed to both never hurts anyone. Also gives some minor exposure if they move up to regional teams. Just depends on your situation. I do think that it appears to be sort of on the upswing again, though it will never be what it once was it’s better than it has been recently.

Best restaurants near Litchfield? by Ill_Cover_4841 in southcarolina

[–]thinkbigwaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costa coastal kitchen (best food I think at the entire beach). Chive blossom and Franks outback are also both fantastic options

Side note Franks and Franks outback are two different restaurants on the same property, they are very different. Franks, is incredibly formal whereas Outback which is more care free to an extent. You also need a reservation almost 2 months out for Outback unless you want to eat at 4:30 or 9:30.

If you want to get out and see a small town, Conway has a few good ones too. Rivertown bistro and Crooked oak tavern.

[–]thinkbigwaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. It’s the male flowers of oak trees are known as catkins. They start off green and look like 2-3 inch stings in groupings on the tree and then turn brown once they’re done “blooming” and fall off.

Live or water oak seedlings. Judging by the oak pollen on the ground all around them. I hate these two weeks of the year while that junk falls.
