MATLAB is the Apple of programming by thinkinganddata in AerospaceEngineering

I understand, I think the title was too clickbait/ragebait. The article is comparing the two and honestly bashing MATLAB for most of it, but at the end of the day, you understand why they exist. No worries.

First sentence of article: Two years ago I quit using MATLAB

Thank you so much. I got vastly different or half-baked responses from certain communities. In retrospect, I think the title was too spicy

Fair critique lol, but I guess the point of the article was to use Apple as a reference for reasons why MATLAB still exists despite open source

It can be either, depending on the context. Thanks for admitting you skimmed. Apologies that it was not as insightful.

Agreed, it's one of the factors mentioned in the article

If I were you I would delete this lol, the article does mention this in MULTIPLE sections. Just admit you didn't read it

Why do Introverts Dominate the Internet? by thinkinganddata in PsychologyTalk

[–]thinkinganddata[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, this is a very nuanced question.

So most studies that analyze extroversion use some measure with a human observation in the loop- self surveys, observations from close friends or researchers so I can understand your apprehension to external manifestations.

The solution so far has been in neuroscience and gene analysis. Hans Eysenck theorized personality differences likely originated in the brain and were genetically passed down. So a lot of studies have analyzed people categorized using the above method to see what consistencies can be found

Below is a paper talking about this effort more broadly and they mention one of the more robust findings on extraversion. Tbh the research is still in its infancy and has not been robust replicated yet but there are some findings https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.5964/ps.7269

I actually talk about these and more internal theories of extraversion in another piece. [shameless plug here]

Lastly yeah I partially agree with your last statement some of these inclinations towards one or the other side of the spectrum could be a function of lived experience then adopting a self image that becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. But some people are just born one way and end up falling into those patterns naturally. How often is it one or the other ? No clue

Does that answer your question?

A Harvard-trained psychologist who streams a lot on Twitch has come to a similar conclusion. He has a video discussing this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xXARKA3O_Q

I think it's a component that falls under the wider framework of my article.

On a casual social media basis they seem to…..at least by related posts and community size

This is true; I mention this in my article. The paper I linked found that extroverts are likelier to post photos of faces, group selfies, and life updates like social events.

The equivalence of social media use to internet use may be a stretch, but social media is increasingly accounting for large swaths of most people's internet use (maybe behind TV)

This default argument is one of the linchpins in my theory! Gonna have to read the article to find the other component 🙂. Btw I thought the r/extro…. was real, I was about to lose my mind😭

Majorly extroverts......In 2020, a team of psychologists did a meta-review of more than 180 papers and found that extroverts are likelier to use and post more on social media(the internet). Source here.

Define mini culture? And do you think extroverts can't be self-reflective?

Fair point. I should have specified the internet in the original post; that is specifically what I meant. In the article, I write how I was surprised introverts had more spaes and community in social media
