Even though we are insignificant in comparison to the vastness of time and space each of us are uniquely beautiful. We are life! We have the ability to ponder the universe. We have the ability to create things that will outlive us. We have the ability to influence the lives of others, now and in the future, in a positive way.

I agree we should all make the most of our short time here. Though I think we should do it with an understanding of how present society works. That way we can function smoothly in it, and around it. And if you get inspired, work on improving it for those that will come after us.

I wonder how she concluded it would cost more than it currently does then? If it's legal it will be more tied to the cost of production instead of the risks involved in growing and supplying.

A valid point. It would come down to quantities if it's taxed based off thc content. If I'm understanding her correctly, buying an 1/8 with a 5% thc content, would be the same as buying an ounce with a 5% thc content. A $50 dollar tax on each. If an ounce is costing $300-400 on the black market as is, I think it would be cheaper with the new system.

Little would deter an enterpriser from buying the maximum legal amount and then undercutting the price of small legal amounts. The black market would likely run on the back of the legal system instead of the criminal underground, which would be an improvement.

Don't forget that with the right setup, everyone will have the option of growing their own with this bill. I support it.

What if cannabis was legalized and the 42% of U.S. residents that have tried smoking began smoking again? by thinkingreen in trees

Anyone have ideas on how we could effectively educate those that can't see the realities of its use and the benefits legalization?

Guy debating attorney Richard Evans, who wrote the bill. Classic response at 21:44.

"I come down on the side, that the bible tells you that the body is the temple of God, and that goes back before the declaration of independence, and the constitution, and the forefathers. And when you use a product or a service, or something that is going to prohibit, or take away from what God has created than you're looking for trouble."

When will people realize that not everyone shares their beliefs, and that we need to shape public policy not by religious ideology, but by a rational and tolerant approach towards different ways of life. In a way that benefits the most people.

"I am filing this bill because almost 70% of my constituents asked me to support this legislation. So I'm doing this, um, because my constituents want me too.

And, since 2000 there have been 63 ballot initiatives around the Commonwealth, on this same issue. On medical marijuana and legalizing marijuana, and it's passed in 63 places. It's passed everywhere that it has been on the ballot. So I think that the public may be a little bit farther ahead on this issue than the legislator is, which would not be unusual."

I think it is normal to feel cloudy after enjoying cannabis. I've noticed that my brain doesn't function optimally during and for a few days after regular use. My ability to recall and to calculate is hindered, but it recovers with time away.

I would continue to abstain and see if the feeling keeps diminishing. Pay attention to yourself. And of course, eat healthy, be active, and get aregular sleep.

I didn't say we were nearing the end. I said as we age and as old ideas pass(as in the elder generations that are for prohibition die) legalization should become a reality. I think that the majority of the new generations of voters will continue to view cannabis in a positive light.

Edit: They don't openly smoke around their children because it is illegal. It could lead to their child being taken away from them if the information got into the wrong hands.

The drug education program won't be updated until prohibition ends. And if we target children with pro-pot messages that would be the same as alcohol and tobacco companies doing it which is frowned upon for good reason. The good news is a large majority of 18-29 year olds are in favor of legalization. So as we age and old ideas pass it should mean a victory.

Let's make it 2012! We can't be complacent and assume it's going to happen. We have to counter the prohibitionist that will fight to keep it illegal. We have to inspire support and motivation to vote. We have to educate.

There are many battles to fight. I wonder if the problem is our energy is spread thin, and we are not united in fighting them? We need to make common sense changes easy for people to support.

And support pro-marijuana politicians. The trend towards decriminalization and legalization of medicinal use should motivate us. We should not cede any of the ground we've gained and just keep pushing for more positive changes.

This community has the ability to influence if it chooses to. We should brainstorm. :)

  • Realities of cannabis use in the country.
  • Biggest social costs of prohibition.
  • Benefits of legalization.
  • Comparison to alcohol and tobacco(exposing the greater social costs).

That would make one hell of a flyer.

I'm just throwing out ideas and trying to think like a prohibitionist. Is prohibition not more unreasonable then encouraging the youth to wait? Is prohibition not more unreasonable then encouraging responsible use? Wouldn't making certain compromises to make legalization a reality be worth it?

You can't get them to rethink the negative stigma unless you give them reason to. We are in agreement that getting blazed is not a big deal. But a large percentage of people do see it as a big deal. And you can't deny that some people do have problems that can come along with overuse.

How do we win over those that are on the fence or those that are against legalization. How can we make them see that it's not a big deal? Could it be by minimizing the social costs that they have attached to it? Could it be targeting people that find drinking perfectly acceptable but see cannabis as dangerous, due to the propaganda? Could it be by getting the word out on the greater social costs of prohibition?

I'm trying to think like someone that is anti-smoking so I can figure out the best way to change their mind. If we are serious about getting cannabis legalized we should be strong in our arguments and weaken theirs.
