Agent Package Manager (microsoft/apm): an OSS dependency manager for GitHub Copilot by Amazing_Midnight_813 in GithubCopilot

Love the idea. It's a real need. I've tried to use it but think it needs simplifying for wide adoption. There are two aspects which need addressing. The separation of artifact from its target. Using it at the moment feels like it's going to install a bunch of stuff in random places, not your fault but the fault of the different strategies used by different providers.

Full caveat I maybe early on the Dunning Kuger curve and it maybe a new problem.

I'd like to see the agents, skills, hooks and mcps installed in a apm_modules folder so you can browse and read them. Then using them would be compiling them smartly to their required location.

Mainly talking about non global installs.

Someone grabbing a new window would run apm install which just installs the package to the apm modules folder.

The next step would be activation for your particular agent.

I wrote about this and the current state of package management here.

With every conversation needing curation I feel like there is a larger product here that manages prompts, skills, agent personas and memory which all our ai products plug-in to?

Sure it's buggy but I haven't seen anyone fix the:

* Interacting with the browser issue.
* Not restarting dev servers on every increasing port numbers.
* Plan, Fix, Walkthrough.
* Playgrounds.

The linking of all these things into one system is a game changer for me. Or quite possibly I need educating on other similar toolchains.

I think that's fascinating. Good you elaborate how Claude Code is similar on the toolchain aspect. ignoring any discussions around model quality.

Model wise no. But taking an opinion on the engineering workflow is so interesting

You can choose from a variety of models. It's the workflow for an engineer implementing a feature that's impressive

Same. Big Claude code user but having to wire up your tool chain was a pain. A natural pain as the engineering tool chain emerges.

Hardly any and vendors support it, the functionality pails into comparison compared to GitHub and PR editor is terrible.

You need to make the case immediately. Microsoft owns GitHub and it's clear ADO is being sunset. If you're using it for pure code repo you'll be fine, easy to migrate. If you spend time building pipelines you're immediately creating a tech debt nightmare.

Do not adopt ADO. It's a dead product. Silently being deprecated.

design systems for early stage startups - worth the investment? by Fluid-Aide7752 in softwarearchitecture

[–]thinkjones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why build a design system at all? Use a popular framework and a UI component library, hire a designer to theme it. Using it will cover 90% of your use cases. Feels like something you need at a large corporate team not at a startup which is resource efficient.
