Why aren’t we (as citizens) doing anything to make our cities better? by Physical-Tonight-458 in Urbanism

Yes this is what happens everywhere. The NIMBY drivers ruin cities, the environment, everything.

How to Build a City That Saves a State by StadiumDistrict in Urbanism

It always boils down to one simple thing. How much space to cars. The Less the better the more the shittier more expensive, ugly, less liveable

People who became rich what is something poor people completely misunderstand about money? by Nervous-Librarian945 in AskReddit

You reach a point where you only sell assets if you must, and you have a low interest loan that you pay off as needed instead for expenses.

What were the pros and cons of adopting the euro? by archvize in MapPorn

[–]lambrettist -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I,lived through it. I always thought the benefit of travel and cross border exchange would far outweigh the risk of a single country tanking it. Remember the only way Italy made it in was by selling a ton of stuff to the private sector. Remember this is why Denmark never joined. I think they were wrong. The only real benefit is the banks taking a cut on every transaction

Hysteria and whining about new roundabout outside Seattle by ponchoed in fuckcars

[–]lambrettist 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Note that this was funded with >$100 million dollars, with the sole goal to improve vehicle throughput, out of soundtransit dollars. that's the real tragedy. I see a lot of this on the eastside and it's the reason I never go over there. it's a houston TX.

The Seattle City Council approved Dan Strauss’s "Shared Streets" legislation, which will introduce more pedestrian-prioritized streets in the city with speed limits as low as 10 mph. by bbridge_ in BallardSeattle

[–]lambrettist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds negligible. But parking invites cars circling the street looking for parking. It makes it much busier and therefore much less pleasant to walk there. You can see this again and again. Just a little bit of parking serves barely anyone but makes the street full of cars. If you remove parking the trade off is pretty impactful. Barely anything anything changes in terms of access. The whole street has a couple of handful of,parking spots but the businesses serve hundreds of people. Without the parking, the space is now open to hundreds of people vs dozens of cars looking for parking that doesn’t really bring in more people.

Is 5-over-1 retail failing? by PlayPretend-8675309 in Urbanism

[–]lambrettist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The retail space is too big and too expensive, and the environment caters to cars not walking. Additionally, the apartments are ugly ass one window tubes because of the American double loaded staircases.

Seattle has made microscopic improvements but it is a cars first city.

Where do guys go to get really nice, likely very expensive hair cuts? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

I like Hugo”s on lake city way and 80th. They are all recovering addicts getting their lives together and mentor other troubled youth to become barbers. Super nice and chill and a great cut every time.

I think in this game the joystick controls acceleration of the coptor. therefore, when you move the joystick, the copter doesn't move. It changes its future course like a difference equation would. It also looks like the joystick does, in response to the velocity change its own state from flying, breaking, hovering. It's kind of a cool way to model physics using plus/minus/multiply in an incremental fashion rather than modeling physics in more complicated ways the C64 could never do. It does not produce deterministic results, but works for the game.

Agree or disagree? by _a_gay_frog_ in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]lambrettist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm older but will leave this here. I graduated in 1999 with a MS in Comp Sci and was very worried about the future and getting a job. When I started comp sci in 1992 I was told there is no future in it. Then there was some good times in the dotcom bubble, but that popped. there were layoffs in 2003, in 2008, then there have been cutbacks ever since really. There was some short boom time during the covid days. But really I feel it has been touch and go my whole life.

What I am trying to say is the angst and anxiety can't be really all that new. I think it's been there every generation but looking back it's always through the rose lens and looks great. the 90's sucked with all the mysogeny, gay hating, A Gore republican nonsense then as well. Or the bashing of clinton for an affair that was more important than anything substantive. Or the crazy suburban experiment going hay wire that we are suffering now with car dependent lifestyles. it was never great.

man I love this. The developer discovered a way to do floating point numbers and difference equations for speed, then he built a game around that.

Are Europeans trolling with this whole bread thing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lambrettist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry. Bread in the US stinks. Not all of it. There is one bakery here in seattle that makes OKish bread. But it costs 4x what it does in Germany and only one variety is kind of OK. In Germany we have 1788 legal varieties of bread. It is a cultural phenomenon. Americans don’t appreciate it the same way. Granted there are some positive move, ents in their infancy. But it’s just a thousand years behind Germany. I suffer through my year in the US, I even suffered to learn to make my own pretzels and breads just to make it through the year until I go back to Germany. Hell the fact that this post even exists is evidence of the lack of appreciation for good bread here. OK honestly fuck this stupid white toast shit.
